What would you do if you destroyed/wrecked your 4Runner

I was just thinking about all of the upgrades that I "need" to acquire for my Gen III 4Runner. After adding up all of the costs (a bad idea, I know) I thought, "This is alot of money! What if my 4Runner is destroyed?" So that got me thinking about what I would do in the event a tree fell on it or, I dunno, I flipped it offroading...

I decided that I would salvage what I could and buy another Gen III 4Runner.

What would you do?

When my Surf got t-boned/rolled and written off, I parted it out as best I could, and got a Land Cruiser. I still really miss certain things about that truck (roll down rear window being #1, but the size and turning radius were nice in town as well), but I'm very happy with the new truck as well.

We later picked up a GX470 for the wife (call it a 4th gen if you'd like), and it still pisses me off that the rear window doesn't roll down, instead there's that stupid swing gate that opens the wrong direction.

If it's not totaled, I would use the insurance money to upgrade to aftermarket bumper, mods, etc. instead of replacing OEM parts.

If totaled, I'd probably look to buy a used, cheaper and preferably already built up 4runner, taco, or tundra. Maybe even a GX470.

My fourth gen was totaled and i hopped straight into a TRD Tacoma, couldnt be happier.

Need an option for Double Cab Tacoma up there.

3rz or 1uz swapped 2nd gen SAS might be an option for me.

Only if its wrecked beyond recognition though, I would chop the back off and make a truggy if it wasn't too bad.

Either another 3rd gen, maybe a V8 4th, or a 5th gen Trail, but those would probably be too pricey. I'd rather just keep my 3rd gen as it is though...

Either a 2016 4R TE, a 2016 Duramaxx Colorado with rear locker (I know, it's a Chevy), or a 2016 Tacoma.

This thought has come up a few times to me as well. I will probably be heart broken and even more clinically depressed than I already am for a long while...

But after a certain point of mods I plan on putting on the vehicle I will most likely switch over to a stated value policy so that if it is wrecked I'll get most of the money back and start a new one. It may be another 4th gen, or 5th gen (if I can source a 3UR-FE to swap in cheap) or perhaps a 6th+ gen if they are appealing at the time.

I would go to a TDI Jetta or Passat, I would save $150 a month or so in fuel if I did! But hard to drive a car over the yota

Actually totaled my 1st 4runner after dumping about 3k and 3 months of my time doing a frame swap, new suspension, wheels and tires, etc. I coulda kept it , but they offered me twice what i payed for it, and i kept my wheels/tires/suspension. I lost over a grand in new parts i had just installed, but the insurance money offset it. i ended up going from something i rebuilt to a nicer, better maintaindsupercharged truck.. It was luck, but you cant worry about things like that. Honestly, if i had added a plate bumper, i wouldnt have been the vehicle that was totaled in the accident. :thumb:

I'd use whatever money the insurance people gave me and put it towards the new Tacoma.
