If you could afford it, just give it to him, he would appreciate it and return more favors down the road. If you be cheap on him now, later on, he might not want to help you.

You have a good heart. If there were more people like you in this world it would be a better place. I have a shop and I let people use it and my tools and I have never had 1 of them offer a few dollars for electric or broken tools. There was 1 guy that was using my welder and when it ran out of gas and wire he tells me that I needed to buy more wire and gas so he could finish the job. He never finished. (at least not at my place) I know there are a lot of good guys/gals on here that will help out other people, but in the big scene I think there are more people that want to take then there is to help out....Thank you, it gives me faith that there are good people at there...............

Thanks man! I guess I can credit my dad for that....he had mechanic buddies, and even if he had to pay for the work being done....he would always show up at the shop with coffee's for them!

I guess that kinda rubbed off on me, I've always been really appreciative of the help I get from folks.....I guess that's why they keep offering their help! As a matter of fact, my dad is actually helping me this week to install a fireplace mantel! Between that project, my timing belt, and my upcoming panhard drop bracket build, I'm getting tons of help to work on my junk! lol!

I'm really blessed to have good friends and family around to help me out!

Sounds like it worked out good, and like whackmaster said, it's nice to see good people in the world still.

I'm usually the buddy that's doing all the work in these situations, and I can tell you that more often than not, when I offer to do something for free, people appreciate it so much they give me money anyway. Usually something small, but I always take it and say thanks. Just this last weekend I installed a trans cooler for a gal in her 4Runner. She had just bought it, and a friend referred her to me, knowing I was "into 4runners", so I could check it out for her. I told her it really just needed the cooler installed, offered to order it for her and then just install it for free. She wrote me a check for $125 when I told her I just needed $50 to cover the cooler. I appreciated it, and she was ecstatic she got good honest work on her 4runner by someone she trusted.

Thanks guys for all the replies....long story short, I tossed my buddy another $60.00 to help him pay for some parts he needs to buy for his Jetta. He didn't want to take it at first, but after I explained that I wanted to show my appreciation for the work he did, he was willing to take it.

He must have been happy with the gift/money, because he then suggested we make a date to get to work on the Panhard Drop Bracket for my lift!

If you're mechanically inclined, just be there next time he needs something done. That's what my group of friends do...we all help each other out and you don't get burnt out of fixing things as easily.
