It would be close, he certainly wouldnt run away from you.
Personally, I love beating V8 BMW X5's and 3 series that think their hot shit.
My favorite is racing little guido kids in their 4banger civics with 8" diameter exhausts.
Make sure you are driving aggressively before seeing him to get the engine management/transmission adjusted to your style.
Stomping on the throttle after driving like a girl will yield no good results.
That's my one complaint with that transmission/engine.

The lesser V6 is rated 280hp and runs in the mid 14s so I wouldn't race the FX no matter what year it is. The FX is more of a car and that's where it would win.

To respond to your "valid post" - 5-speed will offer a bit of better fuel economy, and will be a little faster of the line than a 4-speed.
V8 will offer a better of the line performance than V6, but it will cost you some MPGs.

slightly aggressive driving with my 8 yields about 14mpg driving to work half highway/half semi-local

especially on the highway where the v8's power really shines over bmw's with 6's. My dad's 2006 3.0 x5 didnt MOVE on the highway....his 550i does LOL
I love passing mercedes GL, R's, ML's, and little 6 cylinder cars like the e350 or the 528xi etx..so gratifying...just wish the roar from under the hood was a little more notable outside!

I get 19.8 MPG with V6 T4R when driven aggressively. "Feather-footing" imporved mileage to 22.4 MPG, or 13% increase. :bigok:
With GX470 I get 16.5 MPG driving aggressively, the only way this V8 should be driven. I realize that the GX is taller and heavier than the T4R, so we are not comparing apples with apples. However, I do not think that the V8 T4R gas mileage is a lot better than my GX.
I do most of my driving on the highways, I would say 80%.
Driving in New York City and the boroughs SHARPLY decreases the MPG.
You should look at the way you will use the truck: off-roading, towing, driving at an altitude, driving fully loaded, etc... That will allow you to make a right decision.

City Driving all over today and I'm on 19.1mpg in my 05 V8. I bet when I change the oil and air filter it improves a little from that also.
I found that if I accelerate too slowely I don't get as good milage either. For me the optimal rpm from a stop seems to be around 2k, get up to speed and miminal gas to maintain speed.
If I accel at 1.5k rpm the milage is worse, perhaps because the engine's working harder and the torque. Obviously lead-footing the gas kills the mpg too.
Highway I've seen 22s and occasionally a 23 if I'm around 65mph. 55 seems best, but I just can't do that on the highway. Anything over 65 and the numbers start dropping. At 75mph it was something like 18.5. Headwinds and tailwinds shift it too of course.

That's strange, I get my best mileage doing around 80. Usually around the 22 area. Im fine with that and HATE driving slow on the highway
