What's My 4Runner Worth?

I'm redoing my insurance on my 4Runner and I want to know, if I sold my 4Runner privately on Craigslist or this forum what would I get out of it.

1996 Toyota 4Runner 4x4 SR5 5-Speed

-166,000 miles
-1 owner
- Massive folder of receipts
- OME suspension
- ARB air compressor
- Air Locker in the rear
- Savage off-road sliders
- Double DIN Radio with USB connection
- Full Evergreen Pearl Re-Spray (Freshly Waxed)
- Firestone Destination A/T with 50% tread

Give me a high and low value.

I'd say over $5k at least. I searched for mine for over a year. Saw plenty of '96s with higher mileage and less options go for around that much.

That's the plan! I just need to know what the 4Runner is worth so that everything I've done to it is covered

Well judging what people pay in Big Bear for things like this I say at least 7500-8k. It my seem high in the valleys but if you put it up for sale in Big Bear it would go pretty fast and we both know that, they need 4x4s that are worth a you know what! It is very clean, all records, and has the stuff people up there look for. So insure it for 10k and be done with it man.

I've dealt with insurance on classic cars (as well as a few others in 35+ years of driving) and unless you get an agreed value policy from someone like Hagerty (who isn't going to insure a 96 4Runner - think 57 Chevy) your insurance co will give you book price plus a little for accessories (usually up to $1000 - will be stated in the policy). You can get a stated value policy with some companies (again usually for classic cars) but stated value is usually the most they'll pay if you have an appraisal on file with the ins co. In short it doesn't matter what you think it's worth or tell them it's worth - they're going to give you book plus a little for your accesories.

Trade-in value looks like $1550.00 in excellent condition, to $900.00 for fair condition.

Hey, you asked what it is worth. That's book value.

Like anything that is for sale, it is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay you.

Now if you can find someone that is willing to pay you more than book value, great. More power to you.

An insurance company is going to value it at book value, unless you can find one to insure it at an agreed upon higher stated value. As was already mentioned.
