What's that noise again?

Sorry to bring a dying thread back to life but...

I'm getting ready to take my truck to the stealership to get a few things fixed. For the 10,000 mile service the manual says to lube the propeller shaft. Will this solve the clunk problem alone? If not, what other lube points should I tell them to grease? Should I pay for this? Seems like its a warranty thing. Has there been a TSB released on this issue yet? Thanks.

My clunk was rare. But everything just feels smoother. I did the grease, read diff, front diff, and transfer case fluids at the same time.

I've washed the clothes I wore, twice, and can't get the gear oil smell out.

Gear oil (90wt) is a pain in the ass. Ive worked on my older Toyota truck and had gear oil spill all over my face and hair. It was one of those times where you couldnt just roll out from under the truck cuz my hands were holding something up, so i had to sit there and take it and try to breath without it getting in my mouth. I must have washed my face and hair 5 times, but it still smelled.

I've been e-mailing my local service manager. He says the replacement drive shaft fix is in place until 60k miles. I have over 50k, so I'll be taking mine in soon. It seems like a crap shoot that it will fix it, but I guess I'll have done somethin - duh! (at least there will be documentation on this for perhaps when the new/better shaft comes out - if ever)

When I am completely stopped at a light I get a sort of thump when I let up on the brakes to take off, almost everytime.
Feels like something to do with the brakes to me, but they work great. Would this be the same thing?

If you are talking about the thump when you are releasing the brake pedal and start moving ahead, I know what this is about. This is "Hill Assist Control" system. When you are stopping the computer analizes the data from your stopping and if it's on the hill, it engages the system, so you're not going down the hill while moving your leg from brake to accelerator pedal. To make it work the system is using your parking brake. The thump you feel is releasing the parking brake. This issue might happened on a plain road when you stopped to fast or any other reason which make computer think that you might stopped on the hill.

I checked this information with my contact in Toyota, and they confirmed me that this how "Hill Assist Control" works. I figured out that if you release brake pedal smoothly, not instantly and press the accelerator in a same way, the

My 2006 has done the "bump" since day 1. I lubed it right away & every few months with Mobil 1 grease...Still bumps...Its a mechanical thing that no amount of grease will ever fix!

Same here. I feel the same thing when I let off the brake. This may sound strange, but it almost feels as if the front wheels need to pick up the slack to the rear wheels. I know it doesn't really make sense, but it seems there is too much play with something related to the transmission, but it doesn't seem to get much worse. This originally happened a while back and I read up about lubing the driveshaft. I did it and (maybe it's just a coincedence), but I don't remembering it happening after that. Within the past month or so, It came back. I wonder if the temperature has something to do with it?

Very interesting. I'm just happy that someone else was able to describe the same problem that I am having. Usually I tend to think it's all in my head.

This is a good description and yes just lube your drive shaft/propeller shaft... same on my old 89 toyota pickup with the grease gun!

I experienced this same thing when test driving a 2008 Sport V8 in which I will be owning on monday. I will ask them about it on monday when I pick it up.
