What's the best offroad vehicle ever? Besides T4Rs of course!

I think all the rigs mentioned so far great off-road. It's already been said but it does depend on what kind of off-roading your doing. I have a buddy who goes with a hummer h1 group to moab. He made hours of video and I have watched a lot of it. These hummers were built to the hilt too yet they didnt fair so as well as I would have thought at Moab. Dont get me wrong I like the H1 but in a couple of the videos it took all the h1 had to get it's big arse up the obstacle then right behind them a early 2000's heep grand cherokee with a 3" or so lift and 33" tires made it look like childs play. My buddy talked and camped along side with the owner of the heep and he stated it was a total of a 5,000 budget build jeep. I'm also sure that in other terrains the H1 would stomp the heep. I am just merely stating a point.

I wouldnt call myself a serious off-roader but I have done a fair share of wheeling. Started out Muddin down in Alabama where there is no technique you just lay into the skinny pedal and hope you get through the mud! After moving out here I learned real quick that you can not do that on Colorado trails! The trails I like to run generally are for mid-size to smaller suv's. full size's would just get stuck in between trees or come out redneck pin-striped and full of carnage. I have not had to opportunity to wheel my either or 3rd gen or 4th gen all that much but It will happen soon!

I have 3 kids so there isnt a lot of money that can be spent on a dedicated off-road rig right now. So I am always looking for budget off-road vehicles. I hope I do not piss anybody off but I also partial to the older Nissan pathfinders. I've owned two and they were beasts off-road. They were not SFA but I didnt need it as I dont like crawling too much so front end articulation was not a very big deal for me. Again I am not a serious off-roader...I just like running easy to medium difficulty trails cause it always seems to make me smile and give me the giggles.

I am with Koz, it has to be the Unimog. I saw one in Germany pulling freight train cars ( I think it was either 10 or 11). 3spd reverse transmission. I could go on......

If you want Dakar rally type, or just want to beat everyone to where you are heading to, the Bowler EXR is hard to beat.

Stewart's Raceworks | Our Vehicles

The jimco is awesome, but the stewart race works prerunner has A/C heat, sat radio and phone, all wrapped in leather, just depends on your budget.
These trucks cost more then my house by more then double.

I now use my Jeep for most offroad adventures. I would probably rate the Land Rover Defender V8 (or diesel conversion) as my #1 choice.

I would vote for the unimog for sheer off-road capability. However, the size and the limited freeway speed (it IS, after all, primarily a "tractor") would limit you.

That said, my #1 is the Pinzgauer. It can easily sustain 55 MPH and has the same footprint of a Jeep. They look huge in photos, but really aren't. They can also be had for decent prices and are very reliable. If you can get a 710/712K version, you're all set for camping/expeditions/the zombie apocalypse.
