Totally depends what you're looking for. 99-00 would be a good call if the locker, 5 speed, 2.7 or the 1" taller springs would be desirable. You would also get the upgraded interior and front bumper with those years. If you are happy with an auto V6 and you want the option of full time 4wd then a 01-02 might be the better bet, you can also get the multi mode system in 00 Limited and possibly 99 Limiteds. You can also still find 01 and 02 models certified w/ the full factory warranty. I got an 02 last April and was able to purchase the platinum coverage, so on a truck w/ 54k I pretty much have a better warranty than most brand new cars as I have bumper to bumper for 46k miles.
I do like the 99-00 idea. Those are also a lot more affordable than the 01-02. I'm looking to spend under $10k. I don't have any money to spend obviously, but if you have any other ideas, I appreciate them! Thanks for the quick responses!
i like the new way of the comforts and all but i do not liek the front bumper on them but that is because i do have a 96 and i think it looks better with less of the black plastic
My 97 SR5 has 180,000 miles on it. It is 2wd. I've wanted 4wd for a while, and now I can afford it. I am hoping to find something newer, with less miles on it that will most likely last longer. I know my current 4runner will go for a lot longer, but I'd rather play it safe, and get more of a 4runner.
My dream third gen is a 4WD 5-speed V6. There can't be too many on the roads though, only a few members on the boards here from what I have seen own one.
I think from what I have read from this forum and other people writing in that the 99 is a good year. All I know is that I have had 3 toyota's and 2 of them were 4runners and I didn't have any problems with them. I currenty have a 1996 with the V6 and 5spd and I love it. All I have done recently is put shocks on it and I have about 85k. Good luck
