What's the biggest tire I can put on 15" rim? '86 model

I'm buying a couple of '86 T4Rs. I'll need to replace the tires but don't think I'll invest in new wheels right now. What's the biggest tire size I can put on stock frame/wheels (15")?

The biggest tire you can run on the stock 15x6" wheel is a 33/10.50R15. I've been running this setup for years. Do the 'pinch-weld mod' where you hammer(not cut)flat the pinch weld at the back of the front wheelwell.

Also, do you know how a 33" affects mpg? What do you get?

You're welcome. It'll rub a little but only at full lock. Nothing to worry about. After I installed some ball joint spacers it's not an issue. I'm SASing it now so it's a moot point. Running 33s will definitely affect mileage if you don't regear. Forget about using 5th unless you're headed down the mountain! 33/10s are a lot lighter than 33/12s so that helps too. As for mpg, I'm not sure. It's not my DD sooo... :noidea:

I was having some scrubbing issues with aftermarket steels, even with bj spacers. Went back to the OEM rims and solved the rub on 33x10.5.

Mileage is anywhere between 14-17 depending on driving, 2x4 vs. 4x4 etc.

Newly rebuilt motor for reference, 5 speed.

Edit - 3.0 so sorry not applicable to the conversation. Scrub geometry is the same though!
