What’s the difference between the 2015;16 trail and 2017;18 off road?

I haven’t really been able to determine what, if any, differences they have. I’m in the market for a 4Runner and I want a limited or trail/off road because of the leather seating. Leaning towards the trail because I’m a redneck and might take it off road.




But I’m a refined redneck so the limited is sweet.

I believe that only the Limited models have real leather seating. The others including the Pro, offer synthetic leather seating.

Not much difference that I know of. Dealer keeps begging me to trade my '14, but I see no benefit. I only have 30,000 miles on it, and nothing significant has changed.

That said... the seats are softex, which is not leather. If you run hot, your back/butt can get swampy in them during the summer months. I wish mine had ventilated leather seats, but I despise the styling of the Limited.

Toyota so frustrating... If they added leather ventilated seats to the Pro (along with the sunroof and JBL sound) I'd be knocking down my dealer's door and begging them to take my money! Well, if they offered them in magnetic gray.

Trail and TRDOR are the same model rebranded

But I'm sure someone will take their time to point out the painted wheels, the TRD branded badging, floor mats and seat stitching.

Rumor has it that next year, there will be no more SR5 trim. There will be a TRDSR5 replacement.

I doubt it, highly. If it does happen, do we really need another vehicle badged with the TRD?. There is a lot of heritage and history behind the Toyota SR5 badge, so I don't think they will throw that one away so easily.

Also, if everything is badged TRD, except the limited, that pretty much makes the SR5 and TRD off-road trims redundant (Not that they aren't already minus two feature differences).

Toyota could have just done 3 Trim levels for the 5th Gen, instead we have had 6, and now with the whole "Nightshade" stuff that makes 7. That is way too many trim levels, but I understand the marketing logic behind it. We should have had the SR5 (w/CC, MTS, and the rear locker), the Limited, and the TRD Pro.

Yeah it was a joke because the whole TRD thing is stupid, unless we are talking about the trd pro, as that actually has a specifically dialed suspension.

Differences from 16 to 17+:

TRD stitched headrests
TRD shift knob
TRD floor mats
Black wheel accent instead of silver/gun metal

And that's only on the Premium. Otherwise the wheel accents are the only difference.

To add to that the TRD has the faux carbon fiber center console trim and radio bezel, where as the Trail has a metallic grey
