I have 2 Lexus's and 1 Toyota in my driveway totaling close to 700K miles. All 3 have had M1 and OEM or M1 filter. Tried and proven to me for many years.

If German M1 was available here it might be different. But when USA M1 moved from Group IV to Group III I stopped running it in my track cars. I spent too much on custom build Porsche & Audi engine blocks to save a couple bucks on the downgraded USA M1 oil. The teams (some/partial sponsor funding) I know that use M1 are using German M1.

GC 0w-30 is another Group IV oil available here in the U.S. (GC = German Castrol). this oil is very popular with track folks. It is reasonably priced too.

IMHO Mobil is more of a marketing powerhouse now adays. I wish the U.S. Would use Germany's synthetic oil advertising rules. I.E. group III can't be advertised as full synthetic.

But in reality a daily driven Toyota block is fine on pretty much any oil. These engines are pretty bombproof.

Luckily there are a ton of oil choices out there so everyone can have their preferred oil. :thumb:

I use whatever 5w30 oil is on sale at Canadian Tire at the time I need to change it along with an OEM filter from my local dealership.

I use any synthetic 5w-30 and the Toyota OEM filter.

If you're curious, this is why I use the Toyota filter compared to the competition.

Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra Platinum in 5W-30. Both my 4Runner and Cobra get those oils.

I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance, with a 12,000 OCI. I have a 2006 which Toyota says okay to use 5w-20 but your 2005 still needs 5w-30. Every 6,000 miles I change the filter, I use K&N HP-1002, there are the same the TRD filters.

Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 in the Mazdaspeed 3 and Royal Purple 5w-30 in the other vehicles.

The Royal Purple price keeps going up on Amazon so I might be switching soon but $140 for 5 gallons still isn't bad.

I have an 06 v6, use 5w20 Mobil 1. Was doing 6000 mile oil change intervals. Just got my Blackstone report back after my last oil change and they told me to try extending my intervals to 8000 miles. Seals and internals look good according to the analysis.

With Amsoil Signature, I run oil changes to 10000km & have gone to 15000km once without issue or serious degradation in the oil. I should add that I also run Liqui Moly Certate every third oil change as an additive.

My blackstone test results still were good at 7500 miles. I think between 7,500-10,000 miles is a good range (Amsoil signature). I always had some towing during each change.
