What's your take on the Nav/Audio System?

I tried S2U2, the slide doesn't look like what they've shown on XDA and it doesn't run all that stable. I get this ugly rectangle where the slider is and a picture of a flower on the wallpaper at the unlock screen. I'm using the original TF3D ROM and haven't reflashed it to a 3rd party ROM. Everything else works fine, except for the lack of good screen lock. So the pin lock is the best way to prevent :moon: dialing.

O thank god, and thank you, that 1 feature will make driving so much better.
Very interesting thread. I've been just a tad frustrated with my 09' Nav system and it's nice to see others with same issues... some not mentioned that I have experienced... the auto tilt looks cool but really does it help? When the sun is bright tilting is no help.... anyone have luck uploading their phone address book? I've supposedly got mine loaded but to find them within the phone system is a mystery.... I'm embarrassed to say how long it took my wife and I to figure out what you can/cannot do when the car is in gear verses in park - ok that sounds bad, I'm talking about the NAV... I live right on the boarder between two defined navigation-area-maps, you will find this out when you are in Minnesota and search for a local restaurant only to find all the lists are in Wisconsin 30 miles away! How stupid, my $100 garmin does better! Ok thanks for letting me rant... I feel better now. I do like my T4R... just not the Nav system. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/images/smilies/cool.gif

Voice recognition
Still haven't purchased a 4runner but have the following question: (Maybe I posted before but I'm new and still getting used to the forum). Does the Voice recognition feature allow you full use of Nav functions while the car is in drive? The "Disable" feature is the biggest pain in the neck on the dealer Nav system on my '04 Sienna. I would think the voice feature would work while the car is in motion? Any info?

I notice a lot of people on some of the other threads are talking about systems that override the disable feature. I guess that must be because they want to be able to use the touch screen while in motion? Because it would seem to me that if Voice recognition works, you wouldn't need an expensive override to use it while driving.

I find the voice system irritating, it takes multiple voice menues to get to a simple feature, like calling my wife. I can touch 2-3 screens in a matter of a second to do the same, which is why I got the bypass feature. Plus it allows us to have control of full menues while we are driving when 1 of us is in the passenger seat.

Voice recognition sucks. It takes forever to get to an address. It fails on 90% of our Spanish street names such as "Calle Estrella Fugaz"

Oh, and the audio sucks. The best factory system I've heard is in my 200-series. It's a 14 speaker JBL system.
The JBL system in the 4Runner isn't very good. I also hate the Mark Levinson system in the RX330.
Although, I used to have an 06 Explorer with a $10,000 audio system I installed -- so maybe I've been spoiled by it...

iPod UI issues aside, i'm pleased as punch with the 15-speaker JBL stereo... especially when compared to the stereo in my previous 06 4Runner: an utter POS and quite possibly the worst stereo in any vehicle i've ever owned.
i'd agree. was never quite happy with it. whenever i'd have the ipod plugged into the aux and charging, i'd get that annoying whistle sound, especially if i stepped on the gas.
