Wheel Spacer Looks

I have been debating on buying a set of 1.25" wheel spacers but am a little apprehensive. I havent really seen anyone else with my same wheel and tire combination to know if its going to look stupid. I have 275/55 r18's with the factory Enkei wheels and cross terrain tires. Its basically equivlalent to a 275/60 r17. So do you think it will stick out a little too much to look right?

I thought about trying to fit 265/65 r18's when i get replacement tires since ive read most people can fit it without rubbing. I dont want to remove my mud flaps so that may be an issue too. Ill have to reread the posts with that size tires and spacers though. Lifting the 4runner isnt really in the near future since i have airbags and xreas so this is all at stock height.

Your best option is to buy wheels that fit properly. In addition to looking silly they put a lot of extra pressure on you ball joints. That doesn't take into account safety concerns. Spacers are bad.
 
I have Spidertrax wheel spacers with stock 265/65/17 tires. I put them on before my lift and I had minor rubbing on the front fender liner only, which I easily moved forward as others have done. It didn't rub on the mud flap, but the clearance was reduced with the wheel turned. With a 265/70/17, or 265/65/18 I am guessing that it might rub a little bit on the flap, depending on the tire. It only comes close on the inside edge of the flap though, so I think you could trim it and not completely remove it if you needed to.

As far as the stick out goes, it will not stick out too much IMO. On mine, which has the same wider fender flares like yours, the tires are still just slightly underflush. I think it looks significantly better than stock. Too bad it didn't come with wheels with this offset from the factory.

They're not spacers. Spidertraxx sell wheel adapters. They fit great and work fine. This is a Toyota truck - not some subpar VW product. And anytime you're buying wheels that "fit properly", they typically have a more aggressive offset which work just like "spacers" or wheel adapters.

there are guys who have been running Spidertrax on their 03's since they got them in '03. The spacers cause absolutely minimal increased wear on the vehicle, so don't worry about that at all. Do you have a pic of your current setup? All just depends the offset of those rims compared to other stockers. Pics will be able to answer this quickly though!

They are not the cheap spacers you shove on your Honda to fit non-front wheel drive wheels, they bolt onto the hub via the lugs and come with reinforced lugs for the wheels, they are securely mounted and designed for heavy use. It would be no different than running a different offset wheel.

Lower offset wheels cause increased wear as well depending on backspacing and total width. Because the stock wheels are only 7.5" wide spacers put more wear on the wheel bearings and suspension overall than a 8-9" wheel with the same outer wheel position. How significant is the increased wear? Probably not, but from a physics standpoint there is increased stress on the suspension with spacers.
 
Ill try to get a picture this weekend. I may even do a second one with them sitting out about the right amount if i can come up with a good way to do it.

I don't think being sponsored lends any legitimacy to any product. There are a lot of junk products that pay people to endorse them to get people to buy them. I remember that male enhancement product sponsored some race team. Does that mean my jimmy will grow if I use Enzyte? Spacers are a bad idea. Plain and simple. Correct fitting wheels are the better choice any day. Spending money on the correct product is the better choice.
 
This isn't a toyota axle but im sure this info is out there for the toyota hubs this is just a hydraulic motor i use in some of my assembly designs for my company. Hopefully this gives you an idea of how a hub is affected by backspacing of the wheel. The left side of the chart shows the verticle load of the bearing/hub assembly in pounds. The bottom of the chart measuring in inches represents the location of the center of the wheel (i.e: if you have an 8" wide rim with 4" of back spacing this hub would hold 4500lbs or for you stock rimmers 7.5" wide rim with 3.75" of backspacing this hub would hold 4500lbs) if you added a 1" wheel spacer to this hub with and 8" wide rim 4" of backspacing your load rating (on this hub assembly) would drop to 3500lbs.
This is just food for the THIS IS NOT A TOYOTA HUB BEARING CURVE Im not saying your load rating will change by 1000lbs; however moving the center of the tire forward or rearward of the hub face will change the bearings load ratings
