Wheel Spacers vs. Wheel Offset

Ok, first I'm glad I found this forum to bounce things off of other 4R owners.

With that said....

I'm about to purchase the rims for my '06 4R but I'm torn between purchasing;

- 18x9 with +18 offset and getting spidertrack spacers to widen the stance

-or-

- purchasing 18x9 with -12 offset to widen the stance.

I've never used spacers before so not sure of any pro's or con's, if any.

Thoughts?

The Spidertrax spavers seem to work well with no reported issues. My take on it is the less parts the better... If I were buying rims I'd seek the desired offset so I didn't have to add a component that could potentially corrode, get loose etc. (Not that anyone has complained of this just the potential exists.)

Now if you are going to retain stock rims for winter... The stock rims look great with Spidertrax spacers. With new rims and spacers you'd have a great look all year.

Offset

The wheel offset is not arbitrary. It needs to be the same as original equipment or the steering geometry will not be correct. Steering axis inclination (SAI) is the same as kingpin inclination. It is a line generated through the center of the upper and lower ball joint to the center of the tire on the ground. The distance between where the short long arm suspension (SLA) and the centerline to the wheel intersect the ground is called the scrub radius. The scrub radius can affect the way the steering responds in both a straight line and cornering.
