wheel splash shield?

Hi guys!

I have noticed lots of steam coming out from my front wheels while driving thru deep water on the roads.
I have looked at it and I can see my manifolds thru that gap behind a strut. I have two splash shields (rubber) on both sides of the strut but it looks like I'm missing one of them right behind the shock absorber. same story on the passenger side. I was wondering if I have lost that rubber splash shield or toyota didn't made them? There is some holes for a plastic clips.. Looks like lots of water coming on my manifolds and engine.

I think others have been buying the FJ shields as they are the same and sometimes cheaper.
Mine were completely gone on both sides. Versus buying them I recently made some myself with some thicker rubber and short sheetmetal screws. Took a while with cardboard to template them out but they nearly seal off the wheel well now and should last many years for less than $15 in materials.
 
Made mine a year ago. Plastic showed up between a pallet and the boxes at work on a delivery. Templates with some old nilla file folders and a few bucks for the fasteners at a body shop, and done. The same fasteners in the "HELP" section at an auto parts store are too much $$$$..

YOU GUYS THINK POND LINER WOULD WORK WELL, I HAVE ALOT OF EXTRA HIGH QUALITY POND LINER. NICE AND THICK, RESISTANT TO ARIZONAS 120 DEGREE WEATHER.:sadwave:

YA ITS HIGH QUALITY STUFF, I PAID LIKE $1200 FOR 30 SQ FT OR SOMETHING. I HAVE PLENTY LEFT OVER AFTER THE POND BUILD.

Why are you yelling?:smashputer: But you would probably need a couple layers of that depending on the rigidity and thickness. Might be too flimsy?

IM SORRY, I TALK REALLY LOUD, LET ME TAKE IT DOWN A NOTCH, is this better, lol. No I am at work and we do all our work in caps. But the pond liner is real sturdy real quality stuff. epdm 45 mil I believe.

How did this pan out? I would imagine the natural curve of trash cans (circular of square) to complicate the typically flat/easily flexible nature of the oem flaps.

I have pictures posted somewhere, and on my PC at the house. it worked out great, I cut the pieces out of the flat part of square can. This was done probably a year and half ago I think. All is still well! was very easy
