Wheel/tire size question...

I have a 99 SR5 4WD, V6, and the wheels and tires it came with I know are stock for a 4Runner, 16 inch, 265/70/16, checked the space to verify, but the door jam sticker says 225/75/15. The tires stick past the fender a little bit and I got some Bushwacker flares to fix that, but what's up with the wheel sizes? I have never seen a 3rd gen 4Runner with 15's.

The 225/75-15 is the stock size on the base model.
You can stay with the 265/70-16 or go up to a 265/75-16 if you want a little taller tire (with stock suspension). Or go with some other sizes like the 235/85-16 (32") if you want something narrower.

Will the stock 16" wheels and tires rub when flexing, or do I need something narrower?

Also, is there a 15" wheel I can but that'll fit? Thinking about doing that because the tires are considerably cheaper.

Most 4runners came with the wheel/tire size you have. If they are stock wheels, no they won't rub. Even if you go with the sizes that I mentioned, they won't rub.

I have heard that some 4runners will accept 15" wheels, some have bigger front brakes and won't.

It's time to search. There are tons of threads on 15" wheels.
