Wheeling with airbag spring helpers?

I am interested in installing a set of airbag spring helpers to reduce sag when loaded up... family trips and geared up trips to the trail...

Anyhow I would leave them deflated most of the time. Is this a good idea?

I don’t want to switch to a heavy load rating spring for the 10% of the time I travel loaded.

Never leave them fully "deflated" most recommend a minimum of 5 psi in them.

I have a set of airlift 1000 along with toytec superflex springs, I wheeled in Moab while running 15 psi in the bags and it did fine, so you airing them down to the 5 psi mark would be a non issue.

You can see in my pics that the bags allow for plenty of travel both ways

I have the Airlift bags. Air them up when towing and drop them to 5 psi when not.

No issues when off road.

I had Airlift 1000 on my 4th gen for about 8 years- they did great and my use of them was exactly as you are describing. At 5 PSI (which is the minimum they need to be always inflated) there is no measurable impact on the ride, so at that pressure there should be almost no impact on articulation during off-roading\wheeling.

However, and if you want to be anal about it, there is two ways\options those airbags can be installed: 1) connected to each other, 2) separated from each other.

When you use option “1” there is no impact on articulation (better for off-roading\wheeling use).

When you use option “2” there is very slight impact on articulation (as I have mentioned above it will not measurable at 5 PSI), but that option is better for controlling the “sway” and controlling the ride height (left to right) when the rear of the 4Runner is loaded.
 
We hit trails unloaded with our Airlift 1000 at 8 PSI. However, most of our offroad trips are fully loaded. We have run between 15 and 25 PSI depending on our cargo weight without any issues.

25 PSI at the beginning of Pole Hill in Colorado fully loaded except for the cargo carrier which was empty:

They have been in my Amazon cart for a while, Ill definitely get them ordered!

If I did my research correctly I need AIR LIFT 60809, Can I use this bag when I get lift springs? . Also were you guys able to install by folding and slipping them between a flexed spring?

I've been running the CoilRite ones from Firestone for about a year. I recently deleted my rear swaybar and so far so good. Now I'm going to add a T and connect the pair together. They should still control rear end sag just fine but when flexing air will simply be squeezed from one side to the other.
