When do I need to change my timing belt? (99 4Runner V6)

Hello,
I have a 1999 4Runner SR5 with a V6 engine and 62K miles. I was wondering when the timing belt needs to be changed?

I couldn't find anything in the manual or maybe I just missed it.

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

You can breathe a little easier. It is 90,000 miles. Also, if it breaks the engine is non-interference engine meaning you won't destroy your engine. If you check my link & then go to replacement guide, it looks like 96 to 98 model 3.4 V6 engine should be changed at 60,000 and then it changes to 90,000 at 99.

I have a 98 4 Runner and the only thing I could find in the maint manual is to change the timing belt every 90,000 mile under severe service like a taxi or commercial duty. I can't find a service interval for normal service. So maybe someone can help both of us.

I re-looked at my link and I notice 98 was missing. 96 to 97 said severe 60,000, then it said 99 to 01 90,000. My Toyota manual for 2001 says 90,000 and so does Gates (the link I provided.) Understand Gates is trying to sell as many belts as possible.

That seems strange that the manual says 90,000 for severe. Maybe someone else with a 98 can chime in.

Timing Belts

Even at 90k the belt is only recommended to be replaced. Most belts will go alot longer. I know a guy with a Dodge Caravan, equipped with a 3.0 Mitsibishi, and has 220,000miles on his original timing belt. I`m not saying yours will go that long but it will go more than 90k.

I know someone with a 4Runner with 120,000 miles on the same timing belt. I would think maybe a 1/3 of the owners of a vehicle would not even change the belt, that is until it breaks.
