When does Toyota recommend changing the spark plugs?

When does Toyota recommend changing sparks plugs? I have a 2000 4Runner V6 4x4 SR5 with 89,000 miles.

For your model you are suppose to change the non-platinum spark plugs every 30,000 miles. They are kind of special in that they have two electrods, so be sure to get the right kind.

Here is what is recommended at 90,000:

Recommended Services:
Replace engine oil and oil filter
Rotate tires
Replace engine coolant
Replace engine air filter
Replace non-platinum spark plugs (Tacoma, Tundra, 4Runner)
Re-torque propeller shaft bolt (all models except RAV4)
Lubricate propeller shaft (all 4WD except RAV4)
Replace timing belt (except 4-cyl. Tacoma and 4Runner)

here are additional items Toyota recommends:

Additional Inspection Items:
Transmission fluid or oil
Rear differential oil
Inspect nuts and bolts on chassis and body
Replace front differential oil(4WD)

Additional maintenance items
for special operating conditions:
Inspect ball joints and dust covers
Inspect drive shaft boots (all 4WD models and 2WD RAV4)
Inspect front differential oil
Inspect transfer case oil (4WD models)
Inspect steering wheel, linkage and boots
Inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs
Inspect brake lines and hoses
Inspect exhaust pipes and mountings
Inspect steering gear box
Inspect fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses
Inspect fuel tank cap gasket
Inspect transmission fluid or oil
Rear differential oil (all models except 2WD RAV4)

I would say if you have not changed your spark plugs it is probably due.:awais: The biggest cost coming is changing your timing belt at 90,000 miles. Since the engine is a non-interference engine, meaning when the timing belt breaks it won't ruin the engine, if you don't have the extra $400 - $500 bucks you may want to put off for awhile.

Here is what I have completed since purchasing the 4runner at 43K:

Services:
Replace engine oil and oil filter..... Every 5,000 miles at our Toyota Dealer.
Rotate tires...... Sam's Club Road Hazard.
Replace engine coolant .....at 70K when the water pump was replaced.
Replace engine air filter..... Not yet!
Replace non-platinum spark plugs (4Runner) ......... Not yet!
Re-torque propeller shaft bolt (all models except RAV4)..... Not Sure?
Lubricate propeller shaft (all 4WD except RAV4) ..... Not Sure?
Replace timing belt (except 4-cyl. Tacoma and 4Runner) .....Replace at 70K!!!!!

What would you recommend?
Is it easy to replace the plugs myself or would I be better off and let the "tech's" do the tune up job for $89.00 at the Toyota Dealer? :arrow:

I have 56,000 miles and so far I have let Toyota change the plugs. I figured I would let them change it next time while I am still under warranty. After that I plan on changing them.

There are a couple items in the way on the left side of the engine. You will have to figure how to take them off. Once you learn how to do it, it should be pretty easy next time. If you do it you may want to do a write up on it so I can follow your example.
