When exactly are Limiting Straps needed for the front end?

I am a little confused in understanding in what scenario limiting straps are actually needed for the front suspension?

I recently removed my front swaybar completely (Amazing difference, btw- I am not seeing any cons to this yet!)

I am running Eibach/Bilstiens up front, with a Uniball UCA, stock LCAs.

I am reading that in some scenarios, the removal of the front swaybar warrants the use of limiting straps to prevent excessive downward travel to stop shocks from bottoming out, or CVs from binding.


So, how is that tested to know if you need straps, in your driveway, for example?

To limit the droop of the front suspension rather than the limiting factor being your shocks, ball joints, and CV's. You can set the limit with the strap before anything starts to bind.

Removing the front sway causes more body roll. More body roll cause parts to wear faster. This is an argued point, and many will disagree with the statement and say parts are meant to be used.

When your CVs are about to bind, and more importantly when your downtravel exceeds the mobility of your ball joints.

I wouldn't be so worried about your CVs binding or your ball joint reaching the end of its travel, but if the shocks top out repeatedly (the most likely limiting factor for droop) then the strut tower starts to crack/fail.

not having proper bump stops or coilovers that have a compressed length that is too long exacerbate this as well.

I've been hoping to break mine for the last year so I can install Kieth's reinforcements. Haven't been lucky enough yet though.

You can still install the reinforcement plates... Ounce of prevention vs pound of cure.
