Would like to take the 4runner out for a little run one day this week if possible. With URE closed, where could we go that isn't too far away? Thought about Richland rd but looks like its about 2.5hrs away, would it be worth the trip? Any other ideas? Thanks

Brown Mtn, Rauch Creek, the strip club, Walmart???

I feel your pain brother. The winter is when I take stock of the truck, maintenance, etc. Feel free to go volunteer before the trail opens. There are not enough people that help maintain the trails... WHO KNOW WHO YOU ARE!! And soon enough these trails will close like all the rest.

There are a ton of great people out there and a bunch of clubs. You don't need to be part of one to go help out. I hang with the Olde North State Cruiser club.

From Terry:

Hi Everyone – Here are the 2015 work days. Please put these on your club’s calendars. By next week I’ll be sending out the Adopt a Trail forms again to all of you that participated this year. If you know of other clubs that are interested please let them know to contact me. Please return the forms to me at the January work day if you can. If not please send them back to me by the February work day. Generally, again the work days are the 3rd Saturday of the month. The one exception is January, which we picked to be January 24th so it is not on MLK weekend. The other one we might switch is the June 20th one because I think that’s Father’s Day Weekend. I don’t know if you’d have plans to do stuff with your kids that weekend but I have a feeling many of you would. I’ll get a consensus later and we can decide to keep it there or move it to a week earlier or later.

Also, we may need to do several additional winter work days to get some more barricades installed. Please discuss these dates on the December 13th Rendezvous. I won’t be at that event but you can send me the dates you come up with and I’ll work out the schedule and the projects with the groups that can come.

Shoe Creek

Me and a buddy ended up going to Shoe Creek yesterday. Its is in Va, about 2 hr ride for me from Reidsville, NC. Had a great time, its part of the GW National Forest, mostly single track all the way up to the mountain top, there are a couple of decent rock climbs, few creek crossings and a little mud. Probably more for the site seeing/overland/expedition crowd, but we did notice as we entered the trail a TJ with what appeared to be a broken axle shaft. Trail markings indicated that thing was drug half way back thru the trail, so that intimidated us a bit but we had no problems at all. Nice scenery, creeks and some snow on the backside of the mountain. Hope to post pics soon!

Sweet! Never heard of the place. NCrunner0 how many miles of trail are up there?

The trail leading up the mountain is probably 4 miles or so, its all dirt road coming back down the mountain. Really enjoyed the whole ride, getting there, mountain views and all, nice ride. Its my understanding there are a couple other trails in the area but haven't found out for sure yet, it was worth our 2hr drive up there! I believe Wheelin for Hope is held somewhere in the area.

There are a few others in the area. My buddy's hunt camp is up off of 56 and the Parkway. The one we normally run is the Crabtree Falls Trail. Its about the same difficulty and length. Some offshoots that have harder rock sections but the whole main trail was do-able in my 97 T4R on 285's.

Lots of good casual trail riding up in the GWNF.
