When will we know about the 2020 4runner?

My guess is there will be no changes until the competition creates a vehicle which challenges the t4r. Yes, there is some competition but until 5th Gen owners find a better vehicle and trade in I just don't see Toyota making a change. :moony: I would hope Toyota has amortized all the costs of the 5th and is just raking it in. I would suspect Toyota of monitoring the used car market as part of the analysis.

Maybe in 2019. I say this because Pro sales must be slowing, I now have several dealers willing to sell a 2019
Pro at sticker price. Wasn’t like that a few months ago. Or people are waiting to see what the Bronco or Defender will be like. Pro pricing not as crazy lately here in AZ. Anyone else seeing this?

Important detail when making this comparison: The 2019 trdp msrp is $3,000+ more than the 2018 trdp msrp. What I did see was a magical bump in 2018 msrp's by dealers to reflect the 2019 msrp. I looked for a long time in 2018, lots of folks were paying msrp, there were also people who paid the mark up, I laughed at them and still do.

Seems to me like the 4Runner will still be using 'proven parts' from TOYOTA.

Just ask the Taco owners how they feel about that engine.

I've got a year before my pickup is paid off and will be replacing one of my runners (likely the 4th gen) with a new one.

Toyota has notoriously long product cycles for their trucks, so who knows?

Maybe you meant refreshed but the first model year of the 5th Gen was actually 2010 with a very minor refresh in 2014 offering a new facia, different instrument cluster and a couple other minor tweaks. It’s the same truck and that’s why I’m not trading in my 2012 until they actually redesign the 4Runner and launch 6th Gen.

There was a significant aesthetic upgrade in 2014 over the 10-13 models IMO. In reality, the 4R hasn't been updated since 2003. The 4th gen 4R is virtually identical to the 5th gen in terms of chassis and suspension. The 5th gen makes a little more power but still a 4.0, transmission is ancient technology, but it all works and sales are through the roof. Toyota would be foolish to many any changes until they see sales start to decline. I'm just as curious to see what the 6th gen will look like and I would consider selling my 2016 but it would have to be just as aggressive as the 5th gen and would have to have a V8 option. Something tells me the 6th gen 4R is going to be a bit of a disappointment but time will tell.

Couple things...

Yes the 2nd Gen Tacoma Pro only lasted one model year... but it was a carryover of most parts from the T|X Baja. I think the TOYOTA grille was the only part that wasn't already on a Tacoma previously.

The refresh of the Pro package for the 4Runner does indicate that the 5th gen will live on another couple years. Now, it is very possible that the radio gets a refresh and the vehicle would pick up Toyota safety sense. It is pretty glaring, from an overall product perspective, that the 4Runner still doesn't have this and is pretty much a $40k truck these days in most of the 4WD iterations. Have to wait and see most likely.

I've pretty much resigned to keeping my '16 Trail. I owe like $3000 on it, it is just rolling past the bumper to bumper warranty, and it drives as tight as ever. Though, if the pro comes out in some good colors for 2020, I could be swayed. I've nearly ordered a '19 Pro quite a few times because the Voodoo blue looks great. I thought I'd absolutely hate it.

While I think that the current 5th gen is my second favorite Toyota I've owned after my LC76 wagon (yes that one), I think they could do a lot to improve it.

Bigger engine, better transmission with a proper highway gear, better suspension on a frame that allows for bigger tires without chopping. My 13 TE is a perfect winter beater and work truck being almost 6 years old (also dead reliable from a drivetrain standpoint), but I'd be hard pressed to shell out 40k for something like this brand new.

If Toyota refuses to innovate, they need to cut the prices on the 5th gens by 25% across the board if they don't want to release a 6th gen any time soon. If they are working on a 6th gen, what bothers me is how massively underwhelming the 3rd gen Tacoma is, and worry that they'd go in that direction when considering a redesign.

As a former 2018 Camry XSE V6 owner, I liked the engine but not the transmission. Great power but I don’t see it being a huge improvement over this generation. The thing I didn’t like was the Safety Sense. Too many things beeping and breaking. I had traded in my ‘16 Trail Premium for it but just picked up a ‘19 Off-road Premium. I couldn’t be happier to be back in a low tech, proven vehicle.

From being as parts manager at a Toyota dealership for a long time and being friends with the owner, Toyota isn't telling them shit. There is no secret room where Toyota is going to divulge their deep dark secrets. They would not risk a leak until they are ready to show the world. Usually the nosey journalist and consumers know way more then any owner. LOL

this is about as funny as the guys on my Bronco forum discussing the soon to be new 2020 Bronco...which I'm expecting to be way overpriced and will almost certainly sell out like hot cakes..

Anway, I'm a Ford guy, I've got a '92 fullsize Bronco I offroad and had a crown vic (great car) before I sold and bought the 4R...looked at the Explorers when I was shopping and they do have some cool stuff on them, but there is no way in hell it will hold a candle to the quality of the 4R
