Where can I buy a Borla for the V8?

I initially was thinking of doing Doug Thorley headers with a full exhaust, but since I live in the wonderful state of California, I’ve been waiting on the carb legal certification to go through on the headers. Spoke with Doug Thorley this morning and they stated they have suspended any more testing on it till sometime next year.

So now I’m thinking of just getting a full exhaust. Never owned Borla before but have heard nothing but praise.

I want to do a full exhaust system instead of just a muffler. Went to Borla website but didn’t see a option for the v8 anymore.

Anyone know any legitimate place to still get a Borla?

From the research ive done, the borla catback was discontinued. So unless someone still has a boxed up kit that wasnt sold laying around I think your out of luck. Ive been eyeing the BAmuffler/dirty deeds system. Its not listed on his website but its available. Ive called and have been quoted. there is a few people running it here as well.

Is that just a full bolt on system? I would like to avoid any cutting or anything so that I can always put my stock exhaust system back at any point in time.

The better way to answer this is to say the original exhaust should come off without cutting so it should theoretically go back on if you go back to stock.

I had the Borla exhaust on my 05 V8. Actually stumbled on it at a salvage yard looking for a different part and it was in perfect condition. Bought it for $100 and it bolted right up and sounded great. The only negative is it creates clearance issues with any spare tire larger than stock.

On my 08 V8, I tried to find a Borla and couldn't find one anywhere. Ended up buying the Gibson sport dual tip in all stainless. Positive is it sounds good, is still side exhaust and since it isn't dual sides, I don't have the spare tire clearance issues. The negative (which may be just me since I got an early model) was it didn't fit right at all. Took some cutting and extra hangers by one of the best exhaust shops in town to get it right. It also whistles at wide open throttle and one tip is yellowing more than the other.

check craigslist often and you maybe to find one, also here on the forum, if you want a muffler, just have the shop weld in a muffler, you might want to try other brands like magnaflow, flowmaster. I was lucky enough to find the borla here, but since its discontinue, u might want to check out junk yards or other 4runners in other states that has the xsp package. don't pay a lot for it tho.

I believe it is just a full bolt on system. it connects at the spring joint/ y pipe and runs all the way back.

i think that system is bosal. some trd system is another brand. ill haggle that guy to drop it down to the 400 tho, even 500 is alot.

Thanks for that. Emailing the guy now to see if its still available. He said it was only on his vehicle for 3 months, so need to see whats the story on that since its been discontinued to my knowledge for a bit now.

Yea I am going to trying to see if he can come down as there are other options available at his asking price (new ones too). Appreciate the help.

Also planning to call Dirty Deeds for their exhaust system to see the pricing on that as well.

The lowest he would go is $500. He indicated he bought the one for a 2005 and then had the muffler shop extend it a bit to fit the 2006. Comes with all the parts for a simple bolt on.

i had the same thing done to mines, but i did buy it off a member here with a v8, i drive a v6 and the only mod was to extend the inlet pipe by 4 inches, haggle him down to 400 if you decide to take a road trip up north, i forgot where that guy is located tho.

honestly, the best cheaper option is just get a borla muffler and have the shop do some routing to the corner, stay with 2.5 inch pipes, i went through a couple of mufflers with 3 inch pipes, first the cherry bomb vortex, then the flowmaster super 44, i have heard the magnaflow catback too, but at idle, the flows has the sound, lots of options, but i still like the borla since i got the performance back vs the loud drone.

Figure I update this. Ended up getting my hands on a TRD exhaust and installed it this Saturday. Really enjoying the sound thus far.

Nice...I went full custom since I bit the bullet and installed headers in anticipation of leaving CA next year. I'll have to get it smogged in WA before I leave but oh well. I started going 3 inch to a Magnaflow and out 3in. It was WAY too loud and had drone. So I installed two little 12" cherry bombs at the "Y" (sshhhh, replaced something else) and that didn't help with the drone. So then I went with a Walker silent muffler that unfortunately is 2.5" interior but it is MUCH quieter. Was going to try a Borla 3" In/Out but I was sick of spending money on mufflers. If this Walker fails I'll try the Borla, but I'm thinking it will be just like the Magnaflow. Love the dual outs. Reminds me of the one I had on my 2000 V8 Tundra.

borla is the quieter muffler, i went thru a few muffler myself, started with the cherrybomb vortex , then the flowmaster super 44, everything i had was 3 in and 3 out. it was just a little on the loud side, i have a v6 tho. but it was loud.

Actually a fellow member a few posts above found it on craigslist in his area and posted a link as I was having a hard time finding a borla. It was slightly above what I wanted to pay for it ($500) but the owner had purchased it brand new from Toyota and only had it on his 4Runner for about 3 months before he traded it in, so it was in really good condition. Decided to pull the trigger as I was doing some other mods too and decided to get the exhaust put on at the same time.

But they also have this Borla catback system for 2003/2004 T4Rs vbut dosen't mention the 4.7 engine nor any engine, the one you posted is for the 2003/2004/2005 4.7 engine and is $177 more than the one for just the 2003/2004...BUT they both have the same SKU number 140036...HMMM!!
