Where can I find the stock trailer hitch for a 1999 4runner limited?

Hey guys,

Im looking for a toyota trailer hitch for my 1999 4runner. I have searched and searched on many toyota parts websites with no luck. Does someone have a part # perhaps? I have heard that the universal hitches stick out and dont blend with the car. im new to this truck so thanks in advance for the help

Check Craigslist or post in the wanted section. try your local junkyard. i know there is a few Toyota only junkyard around my area with tons of 4runners. someone has to have one in their garage collecting dust.

you can also go to Cl in San Fransico area. Search for "4runner" there is about 3 junkyard that is Toyota only.

best if you can buy off a person near you, second best is buying it from a junkyard, your last hope would be from the "Stealership"

Take a look at all the 3rd gen Runners around you-do you see any with hitches sticking out?

There are several universal fit type models that will work well with 3rd gens. they don't stick out any more than the factory one does...

Uhaul stores or 4wd parts should be able to point you to a couple of options.

Damn near every 3rd Gen around here has a Reese hitch dealer installed (including mine) and It's fine and works great IMO. It sticks out a bit with the ball installed, but they all do.

Skip the dealer hitch and go with any of the know aftermarket hitches (Reese ect).

The aftermarkets can fit around the spare and be almost identical. Just make sure it is bolted on the frame (big |__| shape.)

I would not want an old hitch installed for safety reasons. I tow a 4k lb boat/trailer 9 months of the year. Safe is smart.

I recommend against U-Haul. Their work quality is absolute CRAP. See the LA Times story on them (www.latimes.com)

how long are you willing to wait to get one? I have a rear bumper and tire carrier being built and will have my hitch up for sale. its the reese class III hitch.

Well it would depend on how much you were selling it for.....did you tow much with it?

only used it for my bike carrier and hitch tire carrier.

now its just there for my yakima bike rack

Both of those look good. Which one will have more room for my spare? ( 265/75/16 spare tire) the first one looks like it might have more room but i cant really tell

It is hard to tell which is bigger. If you go to the site and click on the instructions for the Reese, you can see it will not stick out. Note - it does say the spare may need to shift forward.

Given your tires are larger than stock, you may/will have an issue. My spare barely fits and is stock.

I think you will have to either: a)check out a hitch at a retailer near you and get exact measurements or b) mount the hitch to see if the spare will fit.
