Where is all the wind noise coming from?

Just spent a month away from the TuRD and rediscovered the insane amount of wind noise in the cabin at highway speeds. I'm tracking sound insulation is required to limit the road noise and one day i will gut the interior to correct it, but can't figure out where the wind is coming from. Obviously around the door/ windows, but cannot feel anything. Has anyone corrected this issue?

I thought my cabin was rather quiet when I first drove mine. But I came from an POS Escape which was loud. Wearing AT tires can cause more noise but that noise is easy to differentiate from wind.

Some members with a fluid dynamics background could explain this better, but most likely you’re hearing the air turbulence caused by the outside mirrors, not air leaking into the cabin through the door gaskets. You could test this by folding the mirrors in and listening for any change in the noise characteristics.

Same. I was coming from a 4th gen and an Xterra so...

That said, check your weatherstripping up top (I had mine come loose in a car wash) as well as your cross-bars (if you have them installed). I think the 4runner runs pretty quiet compared to other SUVs so if you are having issues there might be something else going on.

This is likely a very redundant statement but have you added anything recently? Which rack are you running?

Were you on a field problem in the woods for a month in some nice peace and quiet, and you ears adjusted to soft noises, so now that you're back in the 4R doesn't it just seem louder?

I can't hear anything over the tire noise.

Plus my drivetrain has always been loud as shit.

I Recently installed the Trail edition Rocker panels on my 2011 SR5. and noticed a huge increase in road noise coming from the lower door jams.
I think the original rocker panels could have something to do with diverting air flow across the lower door jams. thus alleviating some of this noise.
