Where is the fuel filter?

So....188k would probably be a good time to start!

I bought the filter from my dealer, took it to my local Jiffy Lube, and they literally installed it for free. It was closing time, so I went and bought the two guys some beer while they closed up, but man, I was happy! I hate fuel filters!

I love deals like that. I bought a starter from Auto Zone a few years ago for an old beater Chevy P/U. The boyfriend of the girl helping me happened to be in the store visiting her. He said he appreciated me being polite and respectful...and put the starter on for me in their parking lot. I guess she had had a lot of rude customers lately. I of course handed him some cash afterwards, but he didn't expect anything.

yea......... um............. so where is this thing on a base 96?? i got the tank dropped right now cause i just replaced the fuel pump (306K miles :)) but i cant find the filter for the life of me. i dont see it anywhere by the frame rails or the underneath of the engine compartment. any info would be greatly appreciated

I'm guessing you have the inline 4 cylinder engine. If that's the case, the fuel filter is mounted on the side of the engine block, under the intake manifold.

yep the base was I4. nothing under there either but a straight piece of fuel line. im starting to wonder if somebody yanked the filter out and bypassed it.......

Its not on the driver side of the block?
