Where is the Transmission fluid dipstick?

Hi guys, I own a Manual Toyota 4 runner ( that just died on me, apparently from burnt out clutch) but i was wondering if someone could tell me where exactly the dipstick is to check transmission fluid?

Manual 4Runner = 5 speed = no dipstick for manual transmission. In fact I have never even heard of any manual transmission equipped with a dipstick. To check the level in a 5 speed you simply crawl under the truck and remove the fill plug for the tranny, it will be on the side, then insert your pinky or index finger, if you feel fluid it is fine, if you can't reach the fluid it is low. When filling I would always fill until the fluid started running out then I would put the plug back in as quick as possible.

In a 5 speed it makes no differenc ewhether the fluid id hot or cold aside from burning your finger when you check it. An auto should be checked at operating temp w/ the vehicle running after rowing throught he gears a few times.

There is no dipstick on a manual. Only autos have the dispstick. You check it just like you check your rear diff fluid.

I have watched videos on how to change a manual tranny fluid but I can't find the fill/drain holes to save my life. Can anyone help me out?

How to know what the fluid level should be?

I know this is a zombie thread, but I have the same question about testing the level of the transmission fluid of a 99 SR5 manual.

As far as fluid level is concerned, do I simply add fluid until it begins to come out of the hole? I didn't do the original fluid change, so I don't know how much fluid went in initially. Is there such a thing as overfilling this tranny, since there is no dip stick to measure the fluid level?

I'm coming to this from driving an automatic Acura TL, so this is all new to me.

1. Yes, fill until it starts to run out of the fill hole.
2. It is difficult to overfill these transmissions, because the fluid runs out the fill hole. Everyone tries to quickly squirt a few extra ounces of gear oil in when they're filling it, but the book says fill to the level of the hole, period. Make sure your truck is level or near level when you fill it.

This. If you just want to check the level, each of your hands should be equipped with the latest Mark I pinkie finger which you can stick in the fill hole to get an idea of where the fluid is. No dipstick required.

Your Transmission Fluid Dipstick is right by your engine and also has a hole for your fingers to go inside so you can pull it out. (My Dipstick is yellow)
