Where to exercise your 4wd in the off season.

So the 4wd system needs to be exercised from time to time. Any tips on finding spots to do just that? Is running it in the rain, on a straight away ok (google search Taco guys saying to do that)? Thanks.

Straight away, wet or dry is fine. I do mine on the highway...

Kinda location-dependent.

Here in so cal, I can always go off pavement.

Should be able to find some service roads. Most are unpaved, especially in state and national parks. Or if you find some backroads/farmer that doesn't mind.

Straight road works too according to the manual, just not as fun.

Another question is it also important to put in 4LO from time to time.
I assume you guys aren't referring to doing that on the highway...

I do on a straight empty road and use the locker. Or I'll shift into low in my driveway just to exercise the locker.

I use an old closed up/abandoned KMart parking lot to exercise 4LO. Straight roads for 4HI and gentle curves and lane changes are no problem.

I recommend Gaia GPS. Totally worth it. You can search for trails near you and also overlay private property lines (see owners name).

You probably have a ton of trails within 20-30 minutes of you.
