Where to go ride/camp/fish/relax/private

Where can I go to take my 2014 4runner on some private, scenic, trails (nothing intense) and park to set up camp near a lake or other body of water to camp for about 2 to 3 days. I don't want to do any intense rock crawling or mud bogging but having to use 4 wheel drive is fine. I don't want to drive on a paved road in other words, but I dont want to screw up my truck. I am experience off road but not for rock crawling and all that. Somewhere in the southeast would be ideal since I am from Georgia. Something convenient to go for a weekend. Any ideas? Pictures of trips in this area are appreciated from you own experiences....
Or if there is somewhere west but not too far where I could go (leave we'. Or Thursday and come back on a Sunday.) leet me know. Thanks

Though - can we make this thread a Sticky???!!

I think it would be useful to have a where to go in the US/Canada thread. And the way the OP labeled it, couldn't be any better.
 
Just north of nashville is the turkey bay ohv area at land between the lakes. Not sure if you want to go that far but it is a great camping spot on the lake with plenty of safe trails. Windrock is near Chattanooga, I've taken my quad there a few times. Surprised there is not a trails section here, or did I miss it?

Edit: yes I did miss it. Check out http://www.toyota-4runner.org/american-t4r-clubs-click-view/ for some local information. Not very active though.

Two Words: Highland Park.
 
I was going to suggest heading up toward Brevard/Transylvania county, NC to the Pisgah National Forest and Blue Ridge Parkway. Wouldn't be too far for you for a weekend trip. Plenty of quiet spots but it's been 10 years since I've been out that way and don't know much about non-paved roads but it's gorgeous.
 
Oh this is easy. Locate your closest National Forest and drive there. Find a forest service road and boom, you're off pavement. Its won't be private, but you can easily find seclusion in a Nat'l Forest.

Check the regulations for your specific park but in many National Forests, as long as you keep your vehicle on designated "roads" (i.e. don't blaze your own trail with the 4runner), you can primitive camp pretty much anywhere within the forest boundaries.

Keep in mind that its hunting season. I'm headed to a SE Oklahoma WMA in a few weeks and I'll be wearing at least one piece of brightly colored gear so some jackass doesn't mistake me for a deer.
 
Am I the only one that wonders how the OP is going to go anywhere "private" in a new 2014 4Runner? Folks will flock to the new truck like, well you know ........

as an aside, the least viewed sticky of the 9 we have, is the one that shows people how to better search
