I have a 97 runner. I want to mount a ARB compressor on the intake side, but there the cruise control there and don't really want to remove the control! Any feedbacks and idea? There some on here (t4r) but not much info on the mounting position! Thanks guy

I ripped out the cruise control lol I couldn't find a better mounting spot. You MIGHT try behind the intake tube behind the throttle body on the firewall, but it's a really tight fit and you'll have to use self tappers, I would assume. Seems the newer (99-02) 4runner's have more room under the hood.

I just installed the little mini guy that only runs the lockers and fit it next to the battery (between battery and quarter panel). I had to get a little creative with a 90 degree elbow for the intake but it just barely fits. Theres even a hole you can fit your arm in in order to get access to mount it.

Quarter panel?

:worthless

Just move the cruise control towards the front a couple inches. I had to rotate it down and secured using two bolts instead of the three. I may build a mount so it is secured by three bolts, but as is, it doesn't move much. I will post a picture when I pick it up today. Just had the rear locker installed and its all done.

Depends on which ARB compressor you have. The older ones are larger than the current offerings.

Here's mine, mad a mount to put on the inner fender

^^^ That's the extra room I'm referring to. The 96-98's don't have that much room there it sucks. Cruise control module is directly in-between the abs system and the intake with hardly any play room. That's where I have mine mounted, but the cruise control had to come out.

I have the twin ARB compressor, but in my 2002. It is big and was a tight fit to get it in the engine compartment. I had already removed my intake silencer, but I had to move the ABS module a few inches closer to the front. I made a bracket to mount it to the wheel well.

Here is another way to mount it. I did run into a problem of a electrical connector that was in the way, so I couldn't lay the mounting plate flush on the fender so I created a gap with some old sway bar end link bushings. Cruise control works fine and doesn't have movement the way its positioned. Its a tight fit, but it doesn't touch or rub on the cruise control or the ABS.

Edit: Mine is also a 97.

Looks like most of us put it in the same general area in a multitude of ways. Bandit Runner, I realize you have a 02 and so more room but I'm still impressed that you got that big dog in there ! Here's my 96 . IMG_1809 (800x600).jpg

Did you have to make a bracket or did you just mount it to the fender bottom?
It's on a simple bracket . I used a 1 1/2" x 1/8" piece of mild steel and shaped it with a vice & hammer . The best part was even with relocating the cruise control I only had to drill one hole . I hate drilling even small holes in my 4Runner . If your interested I could try to get pictures of the bracket.

Thanks hunddogman but I think I have this figure out already! I wouldn't mind if you can post pics though

Quarter panel?

Between the battery and not the quarter panel but the body panel next to the battery...like so.

I have a feeling this would not work with an oversize battery so if you are going with mas power for a winch in the future or already have a bigger battery this spot would be too tight I think.

Never even knew there was a spot there! I'll check it out
