Car falls off jack, crushes man to death in Bremerton » Kitsap Sun

EAST BREMERTON — A young man died Sunday afternoon when a car he was working on slipped off its jack and crushed him.

The identity of the 20-year-old man working outside a home at 3145 Aegean Boulevard NE was not immediately released.

The man was on his back underneath a Honda Accord, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office. One tire was off and the car was up on a scissors-type jack when it somehow came down.

A young woman at the residence later discovered the scene. Her terrified screams brought a neighbor with another jack running to help. The neighbor tried to release the man before authorities were called.

Medic crews from Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue arrived at 4:20 p.m. and found the man dead. The car had struck the man in the upper chest just below his neck.

The Kitsap County Coroner's Office will announce the man's identity. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.

haha i sure as hell didnt get under that thing

thank god!

yes I suggest taking it down because there are plenty of people < 18 here, some know about proper jack stand safety and well some might think that is ok ...

Personally I NEVER trust a jackstand alone,no way,I have the 6 ton stands and after jacking it up 8x8 beams go under it 2ft long, to stack under the vehicle so even if jackstand failed the wood stops it,it may be overkill but its not unusual to have jack, jackstand, timber all under it before my ass crawls under it! NEVER trust hydrualics alone people.

ok someone please post it back up, just make sure you label it "NOT HOW TO USE JACK STANDS" or something... i think the rest of us want to see this conTRAPtion

yes please on orig photo, thread kinda lost itself because of the unknown,it would show the DANGER and how not to do it to those who might try it otherwise.

Wood is a lifesaver... I also usu. put the wheel I took off underneath on its side.
