Where to start with my A/C

My A/C did not work when I first got my truck and needless to say it still doesn't and I am just wondering if anyone out there could tell me where to start as far as fixing this problem. I am just asking because I do not want to start replacing parts that do not need to be replaced. Ne information on the a/c system would be appreciated...Thanks

start with o rings they are the most common reason ac fails if the system cant hold pressure then its never going to work.

I second that maybe first see if the system has any pressure left in it I have a 95 and i literally added 134 and some stop leak and its been working cold for bout 4 mos now so you never know

Thanks for the replies guys.. Where would the rings be located if I were to be facing the front of the 4runner? And how is that 95 holding up? I just found out that I have no compression on number 5 cylinder and I am still driving it but its shaky and does no idle very well. I got it quoted at $1700 to fix it at a local shop but the rebuild kit cost $400 online and the labor cant be more then 8 hours so I dont know what crack they are smoking.... Any advise you could give on making this thing have more power...I am gonna go for a K&N air filter and cold air intake but after that I am at a loss. As far as cheap HP uppers....

Well, honestly; it depends. If you are driving around on a dead cylinder, and have been; I strongly suspect you will have warped your heads. I suspect the shop considers that as well.

Not sure where you live, but 80-100 is usual hour charge. That is 800 bucks in labor alone, if they do it in one day. Plus parts, yea. 1700 hundred is a bit high.

Forget the AC for now, obviously and stop driving on the truck. That V6 doesn't handle odd heat cycles and the more you drive on it, the more damage.

Is it a blow HG? I am assuming so, since that is a notorious weak spot. If so, you may well have to redo everything. Coolant in your oil?

There is no coolent in the oil yet..... I will take the advise of not driving it until its fixed but its my only vehicle and the repair guy says he cannot do it until the middle of August. I guess if all else fails I could just buy a rebuilt. That engine has always ran hot though ever since I got the thing. Never on the temp gauge just always under the hood. The head was replaced 75,000 Miles ago.. so I am leaning more towards a cylinder. Thanks for the advice man. Look forward to helping or hearing from you again.

yup just buy a rebuilt engine and swap it in one weekend and your done.
