Which Awning Do You Have?!

I'm toying with the idea of throwing an awning on my roof rack. Which one do you like and why? My biggest concerns are ease of use and how it attaches. Pictures would be awesome, thanks!

We are going to go with Tepui I think, mainly cause they make a great product and I want it to match my RTT.

since I don't have mine yet here's bagelsjustbagels

I've thought about using PVC pipe and a tarp

Yea, I've been thinking about that idea too... I want it to be solid and not have to worry about it. I may design something and use some vinylized nylon or cordura and laminate it with a PU or something if I can figure out a good frame design. I think PVC would be too delicate.

How about a self-rolling projector screen? I once came across a projector screen at a goodwill store and thought of the same thing.

I just got done building mine. Just need to to add a few things. I made this out of pvc pipe and a 8x10 tarp. Super cheap. And it mounts to my rack

can you post how and what you did? I wanna build one for my trip next week.

I took a 1" peice of pvc pipe screwed the tarp to it. Then took a 3" peice of pvc cut a 1 1/2 out of it all the way down. Slid 1" and tarp inside 3". Then took ends that went from 3" to 2" put them on then put caps on the 1". And I'm working on a crank hadle to go on the end. But that's the basics of it

I looked up the sandy boy price... is $485 correct?
Seems like you might as well cough up the dough for the Foxwing then.
I do like the compact nature of the shady boy though.

I've got the 4ft ARB safari awning, attached to my standard Yakima loadwarrior using conduit clamps. I paid about $180 shipped from autoanything.com and haven't had an issue yet! its the shorter one than what others use, but I'm happy

It's like you read my mind!! I've been working on this setup in my head for a while now. Just no need to get'r'done just yet. Add some guy wires and she should be pretty sturdy.

Excellent job!

Back in the day they were $325 shipped, I looked at the fox wing to update the look amd usability but they are a cool grand if I recall. Nope just looked into it, the shady boy coming up for sale isn't directly from their site, you have to inquire about price and color option through an email, seems like the $485 is a markup. Then I looked up the foxwing, on jegs.com it's $572 shipped.....that's a helluvadeal! If you have the coin and the length on the side of your truck I'd go that route.
