Which battery with a fridge?

Getting a fridge, and now I don’t know what to do with the battery. I have a new group 27f in my Tacoma that I’m thinking of transferring over, but I’m thinking of getting an AGM 27f.

The fridge has a cut off when it senses the battery is low and I have a power pack to jump it, if that battery dies, so I’m thinking I might just keep the regular battery and save $300+.

What do you guys think?

I think it depends on what you are going to be doing. I have the stock battery and have left the fridge in the truck all night before. It started right up. If it's going to live in the truck permanently or If you are going to camp in one spot for more than a day or two then I would upgrade.

I installed a Dometic CFX50 about two months ago and it has been running 24-7 since install. I installed an Oddesey group34 and also the diode to boost charging voltage. No problems at all.

I should note that the fridge will only be used maybe 6 times a year, and never left for more than 12hrs without the car running. No other accessories either.

I don’t know, I feel like the safety switch and having a jumper pack, plus not letting it sit too long puts me in the safe zone?

If there’s something I’m missing, please let me know. But just telling me to spend money on something without telling me why doesn’t really help me. Lol

Upgrading your trucks battery is never bad. I don't think you necessarily need to upgrade to a 31 by any means (they require care and attention too) I have an AGM31 and a Yeti 400.

Just throwing this out there. If you just intend on running a fridge and maybe camp lighting, you can buy a Goal Zero Yeti 400 or similar, bigger = longer, lithium is way lighter than AGM or flooded. Granted they're more expensive but also more useful. You can use it for a crap ton of other stuff, even around the house when the power goes out.

You can top of a battery pack while your driving or slow on solar.

then the stock battery is fine

the limitations of the stock battery are 1) capacity and 2) deep cycling will limit the life.

if you just need a fridge to last overnight or 12 hours max the stock battery should be fine. deep cycling will limit the life of the battery but if you are just using it 6 times a year that shouldn't be a factor. i had my fridge in my vehicle 24/7 and after about 6 months i started to have reduced performance - it never didn't start but it got to the point where the fridge would only run a few hours before hitting the low voltage shutoff.

For just a few times a year the stock battery is fine, but running a dedicated 12v power supply to the rear is still worth it
