Which Brake Pads?

When driving, I constantly hear a slight grinding. Metal on metal. When I brake it amplifies. I'm guessing this means I need new pads. I went on rockauto.com. I'm just not sure which ones to get-there's lots to choose from!

I run toyota OEM front brake pads , they stop nice and are quiet, I get them on toyota online, they are not as expensive as going into the dealer.. they were $45.79 for the front pads in my 85 4runner

I run fj80 brakes. with ceramic pads. No complaints. I would recommend them.

I recently changed out my front disc pads to Hawks. Talk about great stopping power! What a difference.

Believe there are metal clips incorporated into the pads so the 'metal to metal' sound lets the driver know the pads should be replace, and to certain extent, prevents excessive wear on the disc?

you're talking about the wear sensors. they will squeak, not grind.

but, I don't think Toyota pads have those.
also, if its grinding already, its likely the rotors will need to be replaced, rather than resurfaced.

Rotors are fine, I took a look at them today. Pads still have a little life in them. Can I make it 400 miles? I'm taking a trip over the weekend and have no time to replace em before that..

if its grinding like you said, the rotors likely aren't fine. its probably the inside that's grinding.

obviously you can do whatever you want, but theres no way I would attempt a trip like that. you may end up blowing the pistons out, you wont have any braking then.

you can just got buy some cheap pads, and slap them on for now.
you don't even need to take the calipers off. pull the clips, remove the pins, and slide the pads out. use a larger screwdriver to compress the pistons, and put the new pads in.

yeah be careful I was a dummy and let the drivers side inside pad go metal to metal now I need new rotors and on the 85s there not an easy task to replace
