Which hood stone guard is the best choice?

I have been searching for one and they look bulky to me on the 3rd gen's or am I missing one?

Avs is the most common it seems but it does not flow well imo with the truck.

It doesn't really matter, it's just a bug guard. As long as it fits, it'll be fine. Just look for quality reviews online to make sure you don't get a crappy one from po-dunk china, but any of the major players will be fine.
 
I have the factory Toyota accessory deflector and love it. Just recently replaced it as the original (from 2000) got really brittle and I bumped it with my noggin while wrenching under the hood and broke off a corner. It cost me $60 but I think list is closer to $80 direct from Toyota. I tried the AVS one as I expected the Toyota one to be closer to $160 and I wasn't all about paying that much for one. After installing the AVS I hated it so I went to Toyota and got lucky it was competitively priced to the AVS one.

Not to mention the AVS one came with NO mounting hardware and some pretty sad Rub rests to stick to the hood.

The Toyota deflector flows with the lines well in my honest opinion with the raised middle part without being massive. It's also nice that you can see it from the cab where as the AVS one just disappears over the hood a little less than half way across. Not to mention the AVS looks like a keyboard wrist rest plastered on the hood. Kinda Dumb. Granted you may see more of it as at 5' 7" I'm not the tallest therefore my view point may be different. That said I bought the truck because it fits small Japanese sized people, like me.

Will post pictures of both if you're interested. I believe I have a shot of the AVS nothing and the Toyota all from the same time angle etc.

+1 for AVS. But they all do the job. I had an OEM Toyota before, but the blow dryers in the car wash cracked it in half.
Also, apparently AVS stands by being "Nearly indestructible."

Thanks for the replys they are very helpful, I will head to the dealer tomorrow and see how much one is at our cost and to be honest I never thought about Toyota for some odd reason.

I think the Toyota one is what I am after as the flow is the problem I see with them but I may just be a little to anal about stuff like this or so I have been told :)
 
I went to Toyota today and the guy said it was no longer made however he never bothered to look it up, I think he was just being lazy :(

how has this worked for you and how much did it cost? I've always kinda wanted to ditch my bug guard, but it came with it so laziness prevailed

Great. It's surprisingly (considering I installed it myself) still in perfect condition. I didn't want to put the bug guard back on after I put my bumper on because I felt it just looked too busy up front, but needed a solution as my hood was getting destroyed from driving on gravel roads.
 
So conveniently when you bring up this topic, my AVS guard broke today when I closed the hood (it was pretty cold out). I noticed it when I got on the highway and one side of it started flapping like crazy and before I could pull off, it broke and flew off towards the cars behind me.

I need to replace it since I commute and will ruin my hood with pebbles if I don't have one. I might look at something other than AVS since this one only lasted 4-5 years. Though I guess that isn't a bad lifespan.
 
Well I went back to the dealer with a screen shot of the link posted above and 59.00 later I will have it in the morning :)
 
I did not like the factory OEM since it had four rubber bumpers that needed to be stuck on the paint. I bought the EGR Superguard in 2000 and still have it. They honored the lifetime warranty a few year ago when the original one cracked - no issues getting a replacement

I just took mine off too. I am really digging the look without it. I have the OEM one and kept it in case I change my mind. I am an auto detailer so it is meticulously waxed.
