Which steering wheel control for aftermarket HU? PAC or Metra?

Which steering control interface is better?

PAC-SWI or the Metra Axxess ASWC-1??

I spent a few hours on here and it seems that 60% people use the Metra and 40% or so use the PAC. I could not find a solid answer.

Which is better for the 4runner??

Is there any lag in the PAC when pressing the button on the steering wheel control?

With the PAC adapter (for my Kenwood) you have to hold the button down for 1/2-3/4 second instead of just plain pressing it like factory. It's not a big deal though and I got used to it quickly. I assume it has something to do with the signal taking time to be processed by the adapter. That's the only lag and it's not that noticeable.

Don't know anything about the Metra adapter, although I do have a Metra JBL interface and it works well. When I bought mine I didn't see any mention of the Metra adapter on here, everyone was using PAC.

It is worth noting that when I sold my old head unit (an Alpine model) I sold the SWI-JACK (and other adapters) with it as a package to another JBL 4Runner owner, and on the second SWI-JACK I bought, the volume down button wouldn't work. I contacted PAC and they quickly got me a new one that worked right.

Seems like either one will work. Metra is a little more pricey. I just want to get the one with the least amount of delay as possible.

Any input from others?

I have the PAC and the response seems to be the same as it was before I installed it. I would imagine that the delays are more to do with the HU than the actual device itself.

Very true and good point. Since I'm getting a 2013 model pioneer unit the cheaper PAC steering control unit should be fine.

I have the crappy tomtom navi in mine so no jbl.

Also they do not make the toyota hu harness for the tomtom. So I will be splicing into the oem harness.

Second picture shows the 2 connectors with the foam around them. According to him they do not make the harness for the TomTom radio. But this was in 2009, since the Urban 4runner and the TE are low volume vehicles I doubt that anyone decided to make a harness for it.

My plan is to cut the wires at the radio side (just like the OP in the link) so I do not need to cut the OEM vehicle harness.

its hard for me to tell when its all bunched up, now it there was a pic of all seperated , u might see a set go to another plug and then back out to another. also it dont hurt to stop at an audio shop with the deck apat trying to see what harness is needed.
