Which tire will get better MPG?

Hey y'all,

I'm debating a between...

1) BF Goodrich KO2's: 275/70/17 only made in an E range meaning they weigh 55 LBS
2) BF Goodrich KO2's: 285/70/17 made in a C range which only weighs 51 LBS.

285's are bigger but weigh less than the 275's...thoughts on which would cost more MPG and power?

Probably work out about the same in the end. It's a 4R, don't worry about the 1MPG you might lose.

Yes, buying a lift will cost you more than not buying a lift.

Using the word "whip" loses all credibility with me. Again, it's an inefficient 17 year old 4wd SUV Gas mileage should not be your concern. If the 1 mpg concerns you, you shouldn't lift it and go with a 285. Keep it simple, stuff a 275 AT under it and be done with it.

Why is this not an option: Don’t lift your “whip” and install KO2 in 265 load C. They weigh less than your other options and you don’t have to buy a lift. That would be your best gas mileage option.

When I think of a whip, I think quick and agile... like a hotrod motorcycle. Definitely not a tank-like 4runner lol

I went from 275e to 285c about 1000 miles ago and running almost exact same mpg. Feels a little more sluggish to me as well.

If I am getting better than 16 mpg it is because I am behind a funeral procession. 50% of my time is off-road. There is no way a can let mileage affect my decisions. As long as I have enough fuel onboard to get to the next pump, that is all I am concerned with. Of course, I have 285/70/17's in the flavor of E.

WHAT? I mean, I worry about which tire will get me better mpg.

I daily drive my 4runner commuting to work. 90% of my driving is on road.

On the weekend I go mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, camping, and off roading etc. so I need a good all terrain.

I drive a 4runner because I have these hobbies, have a wife and children, two dogs (each like 70 pounds), etc and the 4runner is the perfect vehicle for me along with being the most reliable thing I can think of.

If they have the tires for 5 years, that 1 mpg means $700 extra at the pump over the life of the tire.

honestly, if you're concerned with MPG stick w/ stock tires. the difference you'll get w/ these 2 will be negligible

Again, WHAT?

The stock tires SUCKED for what I do, I literally wouldn't be able to get through anything I do when I off road. The 265 Wildpeak AT3W work great for me and I get 17.5mpg when I commute to work 5 days a week.

My buddy with the same truck (same year even) and 285/70/17 E rated KO2s gets 14.8. Going through a tank a week, that adds up.

You can literally feel the extra weight and I'm sure it is slowly wearing the wheel bearings,etc. faster. I literally can go everywhere he goes on the trails. The E rated KO2s are overkill around here, and the 285s are even overkill for the wheeling we do.

I was more just joking. I agree with you the 4runner is a great all around vehicle.
