Which Tires do you suggest?

Funny, I have nothing but good things to say about TW. I have their BFG A/T clones in 285/75/16. Great price, fast shipping, balanced real well. Couldn't be happier.
 
I love the look, and I love that they are "disposable" in the sense that I can buy 6 for the price of 4. That is a big deal for Off roading. Sadly it's not an issue anyway since my limited is stock, but I plan to get it dirty soon, even if its just a mud puddle on the side of the road.....:cry2:
 
I know about 5 people that run TW. I run treadwright on two vehicles and have had three sets. All have lasted over 30k miles, no issues, 1500+ mile road trips, 10psi when wheeling, and they keep on truckin!!

I will never run another tire, great customer service, sometimes they are slow no shipping as they are always back ordered, not there fault, just everyone wants them!
 
I'm running 285/75/16 Yoko Geolandar ATS and they have been killer on everything I've thrown at them, and have worn like iron. Only problem is they look kinda like a street tire, so if you're crawling the mall, they don't look very aggressive. Also look at the Falken Wild Peak ATs, I ran those for awhile and really liked em, and they're cheap. My next set will most likely be Duratracs. I'd steer clear of MTs unless you plan on using them offroad a lot. They're heavy as crap, wear fast, kill MPGs, loud, and most of them suck in the snow. But if you drive in mud a lot, they're a necesity.

For the GY Duratracs, are you talking about the Wrangler SilentArmor? That's the only thing I see that somewhat has the aggressive look I am looking for on the Goodyear website.

Never mind, I've found them! Love the look, are you sure it will fit my 97 4Runner with the stock wheels and height? I can't seem to find the treadwear, I've searched everywhere I can think of..by any chance would you know what the tread life is on those?

Glad to hear you are not having any issues. I'm still waiting to hear back from TW on what pictures they require of the tires. Sent them the dealership info, even sent a copy of receipt for work. They are going to call them and talk to them about the balancing.

My gut tells me I'm going to get the shaft on this. So far, I've followed their instructions thoroughly....just something tells me I'm not going to like the outcome and I don't have another 1k to drop on tires.

I'm currently using the Firestone Destination A/Ts. They are slightly aggressive and give me good off road traction when I go to Tuskegee to the shooting range. They are great on the road as well, not very loud, smooth ride (for an A/T) but a lot of the smoothness depends on your suspension.

Sadly, my suspension is original to the vehicle so I feel every bump in the road.
 
im surprised no body has said anything about the nitto terra grapplers... i am on my second set, have no complaints, other than i wish i would have bought a mud tire, it suits me needs better, but for an AT tire, they are amazing and i still have yet to find fault with them, awesome on the hwy(wet or dry), great in the snow, great in the rocks, wonderful on gravel roads(only wonderful, and not great because the pick up rocks and fling them at my paint like i have duct tape on my tires...), good in the sand, and ok in the mud... but then again the are not a mud terrain and so i dont expect them to do well in the mud.

but for a mud terrain tire i also really liked my maxxis bighorns, they did awesome on the hwy, and in the rocks, snow, and sand. never had a complaint about them other than the noise when the tread got low. and even then the tires were still great tires and did everything i asked of them
 
I would recommend Goodyear Duratracs. I saw in your first post that you originally wanted a mud terrain tire, but realized an all-terrain was more practical. The Duratrac is the best of both worlds IMO, they are probably the most aggressive looking AT tire out there, and perform well in all conditions that I have encountered. I have had them for about 22,xxx miles now and they are wearing very well, with about 70% life left. I will definitely be buying another set once these wear out. I had a set of the nitto grapplers for my last set and I had to replace them after about 35k miles. I didn't do much off roading, but for an A/T tire the tread life was sub par. I've been pleased with my Destination A/Ts, but they dont look aggressive enough. I also had the same problem with my tires picking up rocks and throwing them, but it was a pleasing sound. I loved the Nitto's, but for a daily driver it wasn't practical for me.
 
Plus-one for the Hankook Dynapro ATM, I've had mine for a year, and have had great luck with them so far. Here they are in 265-75-16

I am going to put the cooper ATP out there on my first set with a few miles and I loving them 475 bucks shipped for discount tire direct check them out

I'll second this on the Treadwright Guard Dogs. I have them in 265/75/16 but I did have to trim the front bumper a little bit for them. Gas mileage will typically be 20 on the highway and 16-17 around town. You have to spend a lot more money on gas to equal the savings you have by getting something from Treadwright.

I've got Guard Dogs in 285/75/16. No complaints here other than I think they weigh more than most 33's. At the same time they make most 33's look small. They are tall! Not sure how tall unloaded, but I measure 33" with them installed on the vehicle. I've been asked a few times if they were 35's.

Did a pretty gnarly wheeling trip aired down to 15 PSI and I was climbing rocky hills with 3' rock ledges no problem. In fact I didn't slip the tires at all going through 2' deep water holes, climbing out, rocky hills, deep ruts staying on ridges, etc. Pretty stoked with the tires actually.

If not Treadwright, then I'd look at Duratracs, General AT2's, Nitto, Cooper.
