Which Torsion Bars?

My stock torsion bars just aren't beefy enough to support the weight of my lifted front end. Between the Warn Winch Bumper, winch, and another add-ons I'm getting way to much dive in the front when off-road, or hitting the brakes.

I've pretty much maxed out the stock ones without messing up the front height. So I'm looking at Sway-A-Way, but can't decide on which to go with.

1. Toyota Pickup / 4Runner Torsion Bars, 1986-97, 25mm X 41.875 inches Long (4WD)

2. Toyota Pickup / 4Runner Torsion Bars, 1986-97, 27mm X 41.875 inches Long (4WD Race Material)

Will the 27mm x 41.875 even mount up?

Thanks in advance for any input.

I have run the 25mm in the past and was very happy with the performance. I currently run the rancho t-bars ( got them free ) and they work awesome as well

Thanks Pisa for the response. I'm leaning towards the 25mm, but would like a response from anyone using the 27mm bars.

I'm not concerned with a comfortable ride. Just don't want to have that 'squishy' feeling when I go over an obstacle.

Given that your suspension is maintaining its height when sitting still, maybe this is more of a shock upgrade issue than a torsion bar problem. I would think if the torsion bars were the problem, the front end would be sagging even when static, whereas shocks are for dynamic movement such as when taking hits or braking. Just my two cents, anyway.

Rob I have some Old man Emu bars I can sell you pretty damn cheap. Brand new and never installed. I got them with my lift and just never got around to installing them. Since I am doing a SAS soon, I don't need them.

Send me a PM.

Thats what I'm wondering.

With mine, I'm running OME N98s, with ball joint spacers, and heavy bumper and winch. The five I get from mine is not so much from the front going down, but the chevy 63"s in the rear unloading, and letting it go up.

Thanks for all the great input ya'll.

Now I'm leaning towards both a shock and torsion bar swap out. I have not been happy with the shocks (Rough Country - hydraulic) that came with the lift, and would rather swap out to gas shocks (either EMU or Bilsteins).

Since I'll be doing that - I think it's also time for the torsion bars to get upgraded.

Love this truck! There's always something to upgrade/change/tweak on.

I went with the 25mm units and have like them. They are much stiffer then stock but soften a bit after a while. You might consider rebuilding the upper and lower control arms while in there. It's fairly easy to do while the torsion bars are out.
