I like the cop car feel and all, especially with light bar... and I'd do anything to beat the Mojave heat, but I dunno….

This looks like shit though. The body lines on these do not provide a clear transition.

I have a few rooftop rust spots but they are between the roof rack rails for now.

I used to have a commercial Astro van in grey, painted the roof white and man what a different in temperature inside the van. It was very effective and noticeable.

If I were to paint my 4runner's roof I would probably try to find better lines than the one in the pic in the first post/article but as has been said, there is no clear break on our roof lines so it's always gonna look stupid to someone.

Yea, no way to make it look perfect, I'd come down 2 or 3" like the FJ Cruiser.

My GF has a hard top(fiberglass) Jeep that's black on the exterior and you can feel the heat radiating on the top of your head when sitting in it on a hot day. No insulation or headliner, kind of feels like the sun is shining on your head. White would make a huge difference but would kill the looks.
When I had my 4runner headliner out to fix the sunroof I put a bunch or insulation in as there's plenty of room between the roof supports. Hopefully it will make a difference in temp and noise.

Paint it tan then. Jeep calls it spice and barring a few colors it does look good with most of them.

i bedlined my roof with close enough color. White is probably good because it gets less hot

I did the insulation thing in a black pickup in Texas. Huge difference. That
might be an easier alternative than paint. Unless someone just wanted a
white roof.

I’ll play guinea pig...

I’ll follow these lines outside the roof rack..

Sand with 300 grit, use HD mobile home white roof sealer($18), then clear coat and see what happens

I already put heat reflector above the head liner - min impact on heat reduction but does hold in the a/c cold easier then last year

I did this last year on my '96 prior to installing the factory roof rails in order to slow the roof's rate of paint decay and to block some heat while in the desert. I tried to make it invisible from the ground (for function, not form). It definitely helps keep the interior cool with the A/C not working as hard - it even gets too cold for some passengers in 100+ degree outdoor heat. In 90+ degree direct sun, the dark green surfaces are unbearably hot to the touch while the white is touch-bearable.

I sold this rig to Allan in Murrietta just this past weekend (heartbreak). He may be on this forum.

this is exactly what I plan on doing when I monstaline. white roof, grey (light or dark, havent decided) for the rest of the 4runner.

The flaking clear coat on my evergreen pearl is actually kind of white now. Probably just as effective and doesn't look intentionally shit.
