Who fixes these clocks?

Well, my clock doesn't work. I'm willing to take it out and ship it to someone, or take it to a shop. I don't know who does this? I don't want to buy another clock to maybe have it fail in 2 months when i could fix this one for good. It's been dead for the last year. It will come on once a month for like 2 hours then die off again. I don't want to open it up in fear of breaking something.

So, who would fix my clock? Would a member be willing to get my clock shipped to them, take it apart, fix it and send it back? I will obviously imburse that member for his time and shipping. Is there a shop that would be able to solder the points? I really don't know any shop that does that. I am not interested in buying a gun for this one thing. If a member was close i'd drive to them and buy lunch. What options are available for me and my clock problem?

I brought mine for $30.. I though about fixing mine up.. but for $30 dollars.. it was a no brainer..

and is been almost 10 years since i had it replaced and it still works.

Try and find a replacement for $30 on-line....good luck. Only in a junkyard.
 
I sent mine in to one of the eBay repair guys - can't remember which one - and it's still working four years later.

Someone posted here how to "replace" the clock with an outside air temp gauge. I am posting this because I'm too lazy to find it myself and would like to see it again, but more importantly a decent alternative!

My own has been broken since about 2002. I have pretty good soldering skills--I have a HeathKit digital alarm clock I built in grade school that is in continuous service for over 40 years--but I'm not going to bother because that is where I put my smartphone mount and my Alpine HU has a perfectly good clock.

I probably should repair the clock and sell it, but then I might want it if ever sell the truck.

is hard.. especially when the dealer wanted $300 for a clock.. junkyard is the way to go..

on top of that, I was switching out my father's air filter and I lost the bolt that goes into the assembly.

the freaking dealer doesn't sell the bolt by itself, they will however sell the upper assembly for $450 dollars..

I just went to the hardware store and $2 dollars later, I was good to go..

I've been using a tablet on a mount as my headunit/nav/text screen for about 4 months. But I haven't liked having my phone on a mount, no location has worked well for me. The AC register mounts suck, and I tried on that went in to the cig lighter, that was OK, but now it's back in a cup holder. :doh: I'd love to see how you mounted it where the clock is. Popcorn anybody?

I just bought a cheapo universal mount at WallyWorld, threw away the AC/cup hardware, and used a self tapping screw to put the mount tab on that flat part just in front of and below the clock screen. It's held fine for a few years, to my surprise. I'd take a pic, but I'm refinishing the wood on the center bezel right now, so I took it down. Give me a few days.

Full disclosure, I use an embarrassingly old and small phone--my approach wouldn't work on a big one, I suspect.

You do. In less time than it takes to drink a couple of beers. All you need is a few inches of wire and a solder iron. Or, if you are lucky, just stretch the factory springs for proper contact.

That's my problem, I don't have a solder iron and clocks are a little out of my comfort zone for mods. I would rather pay someone 20$ to fix it than for me to fix it. Those ebay people seem promising.

Don't worry. It really is easy. If you can build a snap together model car then you can do this mod with ease. But I understand if you don't want to mess with it. Good luck either way.

Oh, nevermind then, LOL. Yeah I'd still look at it. Right now I'm leaning towards something added to the tablet mount. You can spend as much on mounts as the hardware! Hasn't been a priority. But my clock sucks and like you, I don't need it. I'd love to install a windshield spray nozzle and spray my buddies or my son, not my girlfriend. Well maybe her too!
