who has 2 meter or 440/dual band in your 4Runner?

Made me a filler plate, made a mic input extension and moved the USB to the other side.

Do you have any more pics or info on how you did the filler plate? I want to do something similar for my FT8800 but I'm having imaginiitive difficulty envisioning how to attack a piece of plastic to the brackets instead of the backside of the bezel.

The plastic is actually not attached to much. It's not very thick but is very stiff. The face plate of the 8800 slightly tapers up as you go back from the front. The plastic is sanded down to slip back on the radio face and is held in the front by the larger dash bezel.

The filler plate is larger on the sides and bottom. This is where the bezel pushes. The brackets that hold the 8800 to the stereo are placed in such a location that sandwich the filler between the bezel and the brackets.

The moving back and forth with the bracket, bezel and radio took some time. I also wanted the 8800 and the stereo to be somewhat flush with each other. When they are perfectly flush the stereo face cannot fold all the way down. It needs to fold to remove and to use the CD player. I don't use CD's but didn't want to the break the stereo face on the 8800 face.

I don't have many pictures but hopefully these and the above words make it a little easier to understand.


Here is the party that lives behind my bezel. It's not that bad really. This was after hours of futzing with this thing. You can see ears on the stock radio chassis I had to work with. I ended up bending and cutting them to make them sandwich the way I wanted.

Test fit. There was a lot of test fitting and re-shaping with the dremel. With it un painted you can kind of see how the bezel covers the sides and bottom.
