Who has a Supra to go with their 4Runner?

The MKII's were my fav, with the 7M-GTE engine swap. I had a j-spec engine in my MKII with the 3.0L.

I also had the opertunity to go to one of the 'Supra Invade Las Vegas' shows! drool...

Here are a couple of pictures of my 1995 Supra. I've owned it for 11+ years at this point. It now has a single Turbo and makes 560rwhp on my street setting. I just picked up a 2006 4Runner Sport as my daily driver as I just had a daughter and needed more room for her and my 2 dogs. I was driving a SC300 daily but just sold that.

Haha is a very nice supra. I know it's kind of random but Monday drove by McDonald's parking lot with a white LFA parked out front.. I about wrecked.

Thanks for being tasteful with the mods. It looks killer! Far to many supras have fallen prey to the JDM Fanboys.

What is the general consensus on the earlier model supras (87-91)? do they have any crazy Achilles Heel type issues? there are a few on craigslist here and I need a fun DD to keep miles off the 4runner.

I'm going to be making a Supra purchase some time within the next year to replace my Ford Probe GT beater.

I'm going with a MKIII, the main typical issues I hear of are head gaskets. Usually fixed with an MLS head gasket. Then there are some leaking Targa tops.

Other than those two problems, they're pretty good cars from what I hear

Personally I'd like to own one and find out where the weak points are, the internet doesn't always give nice straight answers.

This thread has wasted been very bad for my productivity. I've been drooling over a turbo MKIII for a couple days now.

I had a 1986 MKIII back in 2007 and loved that car, my dad and I stripped it down and restored the body as best we could in his garage, turned out really nice actually, made a paint booth and used his compressor so it wasn't a sketchy rattle can job.

Anyways, I drove it for a while until the bottom end of the motor gave out on me, it needed work. There was a mystery vibration that we never did figure out. I wasn't making enough money to fix that car up so I sold it to a guy that basically only wanted it for the mint body.

I'll post pictures tonight if I remember.

One issue with some of the older MKIII's is the body side moulding holds moisture and causes rust underneath, also the plastic warps and starts to fall off and it's near impossible to find replacements, at least it was for me at that time.

Once I have a house and a budget to buy a toy car, I'll definitely be picking up an MKIV, if I can find a LHD relatively stock one. Too many kids buying them and making them into cheaply done fast and furious remakes.

My local dealer had a near mint 2002(i think) Supra with the 2JZ-GTE in it, I'll post a pic from my phone in a second, I think he sold it for like 60-70k canadian.

Another dealer in Calgary has a 1990 MKIII with literally 92 kms on it. Needless to say it is quite expensive

Thanks. It is already lowered on coilovers. Can't go much lower as the roads around here suck and I have a big 4" exhaust that is literally about 3"of the road as it is.

I don't have a Supra, but I do have a convertible Celica GT to go with my 4runner. Celicas and Supras are pretty much the same right? Well they used to be....

I had a MKIII. Has to be the least expensive car to build for big power and it has all the right stuff--twin cams, 24 valves, inline-6 (way smoother than a V6 or V8), intercooled and turbocharged, manual transmission, adjustable suspension, 4 wheel independent suspension, 4 wheel disc brakes with ABS, rear limited slip, etc.

I completely rebuilt the engine on mine using all new Toyota parts (except the pistons which were Ross forged), 60-trim turbo, HKS exhaust, Lexus V8 AFM with 550cc/min Mazda RX7 injectors. Put down 430 hp and 480 ft lbs of torque on the dyno. It was an exceptionally fun car to drive.

It caught a lot of people off-guard. I used to take it to the local raceway (dragstrip) and it always suprised the Camaro SS/Mustang and Corvette owners, they were no problem at all. The Z06's and modded Mustang Cobras were a good challenge though.
