Who has a Supra to go with their 4Runner?

No problem! I could have went down a list of stuff but im sure I would've surely forgot something.

Thats a 3rd generation specific website. Been since the early 00's since I last owned one.

If it's good to go you'll be doing a lot of preventative maintenance but other then that you'll both love the car. Don't get too mod happy with it as the trans will begin to hate life pretty much after intake, dp, exhaust, and IC kit.

Thanks again for the excellent link. I've been reading it for the last hour and apparently these 3.0L 6s have issues with BHG too! Evidently Toyota didn't torque the head bolts sufficiently, causing BHG. The solution is using a metal HG, ARP studs, and cranking up the torque specs to 90ft/lbs. from the factory 56ft/lbs. Other than that these motors are bulletproof. Oh yea, the spark plugs are a b!tch to change. :yo:

lol yeah. Just be sure to machine prep the block surface and head correctly. I forget the roughness average that they needed to be but most machine shops get it right if they have newer equipment. Other then that they are decent motors. Just getting people to realize the age of the motor and what needs to be addressed first was always the hardest part.

Most younger people that would buy them immediately start throwing go fast parts on them and wonder why their old parts start breaking then labeled the 3rd gen Supra a POS.

IF you don't plan on grenading the trans and just making it mildly faster you can use a new factory OEM gasket with ARP's and be just fine.

I've know several people to do such with success over the years. Of course these people weren't shooting over 500hp either. I think somewhere in the mid 4's.

spark plugs aren't that bad actually. Once you get the pipes out of the way you should be good.

This '88 is a one owner vehicle, with around 90K on it. She's in her 50s and has an inch thick folder of records. It has always been garage kept. Hopefully he won't have to rebuild it right away if he does decide to get it.

Supraforums.com is probably the most active of all the vehicle-specific forums. I'd make an account there and start lurking. Looks like you've already discovered the dreaded 7M BHG problems. Justin gave some fantastic advice in his last post. The kids who throw the go-fasters on there without any supporting modifications or required maintenance tend to blow those things up left and right.

Supramania is the best 3rd gen specific supra site there is. A lot of good knowledgeable gentlemen on that website. Few are no longer active but you've got plenty of OG's on there. Heck this site was made specifically because of all the drama on SF's back in the early 2000's.

Dropped mine off at FSR Motorsports on Thursday to get the final pieces of the puzzle finished and the car fired up, broken in, and tuned. They'll be fabricating new 3" intercooler piping, wiring in the features of the Pro-EFI (traction control, rolling antilag), and plumbing all the vacuum lines with black nylon braid. My "pump gas" settings (iBoost 1,2 and 3) will be on 110 octane and on the absolute lowest setting the car should make around 600hp on just wastegate pressure. Setting 3 will be around 800-850hp. My full kill setting (5) will be on C16 and I've got my fingers crossed that the car will break four-digit power. My limiting factors at this point are my injectors (1000cc). I would have swapped them out already for an E85-capable set like the ID2000 but I don't have flex fuel available around me and getting the car to idle properly on 2000s and gas would be a huge PITA.

I have been talking to a guy who has a 91 Supra Turbo for sale. I am going to see it on Monday or Tuesday. Targa, white package, blue leather interior.

It has a blown turbo according to the owner. I'll be double checking that as I inspect the car. I bought a CT-26 for my 22R-TE for a good price, I could swap a new turbo into it.

He claims maintenance is up to date, head gasket has been replaced before. New tires, tie rods, and alignment. Daily driver with 265k. Body looks straight and clean.

It's also an automatic, but so were both my 4Runners before I swapped them... so basically I need an R154 and some clutch parts.
