who knows a good OBD-II software?

I am looking for a good software to read my V8s OBD-II codes!

I have a US specs car in Europe and the dealer told me today that cars for the US market are not registered in his original Toyota software.

When he linked up his company software it could not detect my T4R V8. Then he demonstrated me the same software on a European LC and it automatically detected the vehicle, engine and tons of other details.

I don't have that Toyota original software but I have a small bluetooth plug and TORQUE software which gives me some general information. But the information is not really reliable, it is general software not calibrated to the specific vehicle.

Does anyone have an idea how I can get better hard/software to read the codes of my T4R?

Purchase mini-vci cable from eBay, use pirated Techstream.
You won't be able to reflash ECU, but you can do almost everything else.

I don't believe it's cheap, I looked for a pirated version a few years ago but didn't have much luck.

Thanks, thats actually the hard- and software my dealer also had, but he said that US coded cars could not be read with his software. These are probably used in such low numbers and mainly by original dealerships that pirating them will not be worth the effort. But I will keep an eye on it!

55 USD for 2 day access to the software is a high price! Can you download and keep the SW or do you need to pay every time you access TIS techstream?

+1 on the mini-vci cable. I have one and it comes in handy. You'll need a laptop with a 32 bit Microsoft Windows operating system. Otherwise the software will not load correctly. I have Windows XP and it works fine.

I have heard that some have gotten it to work under 64bit OSs, but I haven't looked into it much. I have VMWare Workstation, so just run a 32 bit Windows XP VM for techstream.

You have been given the best answer, already. Minivci cable and pirated techstream will give you 90% of the functionality that a US dealer has, for under $40.
 
I will have to say I have been somewhat impressed by what the members can do with the MiniVCI cables. Unfortunately the software is slightly different from what we are running right now on our TechStreams at work (mainly its because its an older version, but it won't really affect you in any significant way); so ironically you're best bet for tech support is members who are used to using them.

Its really the best bang for your buck. But you didn't hear me say it... because then angry Japanese soldiers will take me away to get beaten! :(

& its already ordered! With THAT price its really worth a try!

considering that Toyota's original SW and Panasonic toughbook are offered for a price of about 6K USD (yes: six thousand dollars!)

Thanks to all! I go the SW and the cable for a few pennies on ebay and it works perfect!

Amazing that this is sold by official retailers (Amazon f.e.) while it is actually a bootleg version. But its fully functional and gives also the option to choose btw EUROPE or US! Perfect for me!
