Ecm replacement

Hello friends
I have 2008 4runner v8 AWD

had a problem with multi sensor (loss of communication with YAW-LATERAL ACCELERATOR- STEERING ANGLE SENSORS) with non erasable codes & OBD II DEVICE couldnt get any POWERTRAIN codes (can not get to engine).

Did everything can be done with no success.

Finally decided to try replacing the ECM with a one from junk yard.

The PART number not the same but also 4runner v8 AWD CAR.

THE OBD II had the access to the engine & read codes of the immobilizer and get into ABS & cleared all the codes.

My concern is
:wacko: if I programmed the immobilizer with ECM with the different part # can i loose other options on the vehicle.??

:music: & if i got same part number for the same car model & specifications and reprogram it to my immobilizer is it ok or there is also a chance to loose some options??

when i went through this i made sure to buy the identical part. i was tempted to see if other v8 awd computers would work, but i waited it out on ebay and before too long there was a listing at a decent price for the exact part. once i got the immobilizer programmed, the truck worked exactly as it did before.

i can't remember if i had to reprogram the tpms when i did that.

the thing that worries me about ecu mismatch is incremental changes toyota is making to the vehicle year over year. for example added vvti to the v8, fixed hg issue on v6. i've seen at least one thread where somebody ran into ecu incompatibility issue because of swapping seemingly identical engines from diff years or models. usually with the ecu threads i've seen, the ecu will not light up a scanner whatsoever. and then people think it is something else at first.

anyway it's possible it might work? especially if your obd2 scanner is recognizing the vehicle and giving the immobilizer code. i don't exactly have the warm fuzzies about it tho haha

Unfortunately I don't know the answers to your questions....that being said I would always replace ECMs with the same part number as the original, otherwise you're just inviting further issues.

Wow thais is what we may be experiencing right now.. I flooded my truck 06 limited.. Got it running on the Orginal ecu then boom.. now it all of a sudden won't start, and won't connect to a scanner and I'm trying to find out if it's my ecu or immobilizer.. Pulling my hair out currently.
