I live in queens NY ..... Not too far from the hipstered Brooklyn ........ And I thought all the pigs anuses were there.....but I was wrong......
Was channel surfing and came across this completely pointless and horrendous program called portlandia......abysmal at best....watched like 10 minutes and it hurt my hair hurt.......WTF???? no disrespect to people (normal) from/live in oregan.......I mean, I hope it was a joke, but is there really an eyeglass store for dogs there???? Holy Jesus......the worlds (at least in the USA) light is truly burning out!!!

Ha! This is a funny a$$ post, I'm from Seattle and like that show because it makes fun of all the hipsters (though admittedly a smidgen of the style has creeped into my closet). My GF is from San Fran and she has about the same opinion of the show that you do. Ahhh the hipsters.......gotta love em, or something.......

Portlandia is a parody TV show done by Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. Fred is on SNL, too. It is basically making a joke about the hipster culture. I love the theme song. "The 90s are alive in Portland Portland!" My formative years were the grunge era, so I find the song catchy. lol

I'm from Portland and don't even watch the show...stupid sitcoms are not my style. I've heard locals say it is good, but I find Grimm a better choice.

Have another brew and avoid that show if possible...:smow:

I am in the larger Portland area. I have never watched Portlandia, and though it is probably an exageration, it's rooted in truth. Portland is a bit wack. If there ever was a place with a store for dogs to buy glasses, it would be there.

I unfortunately live here. Since 1983 and for about another 2 years it looks like. We actually live a stones throw outside the Portland City and Multnomah County line in unincorporated Washington County. We specifically live where we do for geo-political tax, and lifestyle reasons. The show is an obvious exaggeration, but is absolutely steeped in truth and reality. Some of the side effects of the "Portlandia" way of life are great. An amazing dining and "beverage" scene for instance. But basically, the general thoughts and beliefs that prevail in this city have created a very broken and ultimately unsustainable political and economic model. A nearly 100% unfunded, yet untouchable city public pension system for example (tied to an equally corrupt state PERS system). This is a top to bottom house of cards here that is one disaster of any type away from ruin. To paraphrase the song from the opening scene of the first episode of 'Portlandia': "Portland is where young people come to retire". Yup, urban hipsters who can't (or won't) find real gainful employment because the city actually drives investment away.

It is truly beautiful around here, and we love the Pacific Northwest. Awesome place for a 4Runner and the lifestyle that goes with one. But Portlanders are now numerous enough to have started driving regional issues beyond the local ones, such as in the east half of the state, and we are growing weary of it faster every year.

I live in a neighborhood that has its share of hipsters in the Boston area. I've seen Portlandia and think its pretty funny. I mean, come on. The way they make fun of those people who are over the top about their causes is clever.
