so I am planning to fly to pick up the 3rd gen I found

It will be a 10-hour drive home, not counting stopping for gas, food, stretch legs, etc

anyone travel farther than that?

I drove 3 hours to go look at mine, but convinced the seller to drive it back to my place. Next one won't be so easy. Non-rusty 3rd gens are getting hard to find in these parts. I hear texas is nice this time of year!

I found mine roughly 900 miles away from me in San Jose, CA.

It was a pretty crazy/fun experience. Flew down super early in the morning, got bumped for whatever reason to 1st class, owners of the rig picked me up from the airport, drove straight to the bank, exchanged money and title, drove straight to Castle Rock, CA, bouldered for a bit and then drove straight home. Was back home around 3-4am.

Other funny part was a friend of mine was driving home from Lake Tahoe the same day and we ended up in Shasta within 5min of each other, so we rallied back together. That was nice because his folks live just south of Portland, so we were able to stop there along the way and get a nice home cooked meal.

Dang, 900 miles is like 15 hours of driving!

I don't think it was quite that long. Was doing close to 80 the whole way back and after Eugene, it's basically a straight shot through Oregon and Washington.

It was totally worth it. I know for a fact I could sell it today for more than what I paid for it in 2010.

ha I don't drive that fast. Still, 12 hours of driving plus stops.

but still, a great story

It'll only be around 650 miles for me

Woohoo, first post!

I haven't bought one yet, but I've been looking all the way out to about 1500 miles. I don't mind the distance if I'm getting what I want. Unfortunately I missed a near perfect 2001 with 93k that was only an hour away.

850 miles. Pretty much the opposite of Hepar's experience. Pick up in Seattle, drove to SFO Bay Area.

Worth it for a 1-owner 3RZ 4WD, in my opinion :)

We do it the other way around, pick up whatever cheap junk we can find within like an hour drive and turn it into something. Both my brother and I's 3rd gems were found around 45 minutes from home. But if I were looking for perfection, id definitely search within about 1000 miles.

That's still a good clip! Where are you going to get it?

It will be the most I have driven in one day ha. 8 hour my previous max

Outside of Philly, PA

Depending what weekend I go I will try to either take the g/f and spend night in Philly or take son so he can enjoy trip. Going to make weekend out of it

Transferred jobs from Astoria Oregon to Maine. Found a 4runner on here in Chicago and wired my old roommate/good friend the money and he held it for a few days. Father in law and I drove for 39 hours straight and made it to Chicago swappin driving/sleeping Slept for 4 hours in a hotel, picked up the 4runner at 8am and drove to the NY/mass border and arrive at 2am. Slept til 5am and drove the 6 hours home. 69 hours straight coast to coast.

i was in another country, purchased it from a man in Arkansas, had it shipped to my parents house in Texas, then drove it to where i was living in California.

couple years later i killed it in montana...

Had mine shipped from somewhere in PA to me in TX. Might not count as going to get it, but it was still a bit of a trip for it to get here.

I just bought my 2000 sr5 with only 84k 2650 miles away. Gonna have it shipped. I'm still gonna save money . 4wd toyotas go for crazy money in the PNW.
