who wants to go wheeling?

Sooo, there is going to be a Blue Moon this Friday - I think we should plan a night run somewhere - maybe something fairly easy so the newer guys can come out and have fun too; like 4 Peaks or we could check out Butcher Jones area, just not go all the way into the 5th cove like usual. A few other clubs I run with are doing night runs, but they are heading out to trails that are out of my comfort zone when its daylight, so I'm not too interested in trying that kinda stuff in the dark.
What do ya'll think? Who's in?
And what happened to going camping? I got finally got the wheels and tires on the 06 and I'm ready to pack it up and head out!
Jeff... W's & T's look AWESOME! Did you get the wheels on CL? I saw some like that for sale. One of the nicest wheels ever offered, IMHO. This Blue Moon thing sounds like fun...

Thanks! I love the way it looks now. Both wheels & tires are both 1 size bigger than what was on there before. I got them from a guy on here actually. I looked on CL for a while but couldn't find any, or they were asking too much.
What do you think about a night run Friday?

Hmm I might be up for the night run, i have been wanting to test out my ditch lights. Lets set a time and location and i will try to make it this time.

depending on the brand of nerf bars you're looking for, I would use amazon... they carry the NFab brand which have a step profile like the one you have pictured above...

You may also want to consider practical use. Are you looking for a sidestep or protection? I say this only from a cost standpoint, I hate doing thing twice

I agree with [MENTION=111871]ccastonguay[/MENTION], get something that's going to fit the function you need. Sliders, while more expensive typically, will also protect the rocker panels under your doors from damage if you decide to get out there and do some more serious wheeling. As a matter of fact, you can probably get sliders fabricated here locally for the same price as a set of nerf bars from amazon. A buddy of mine got sliders made for his FJ for right at $300 for a set...
So think about what you're going to do with your Runner and go from there. It might be best to just hold off on any mods until you've had it for a while and done some wheeling to get a feel for where you think your vehicle needs improvement. I was able to do plenty of off road wheeling with mine bone stock. (and it still pretty much is outside of a CB radio and a suspension lift...).

Coder, do you have any pics of the sliders on your buddy's FJ? I have been thinking about adding some and if there is a local shop it would definitely save on shipping!

No pictures... But they look like standard sliders without a bump-out. Saved some money by not powder coating and just used rattle can to cover the bare metal. They were also welded onto the frame instead of bolting.

The only issue with the side-step bars is they do nothing to protect the rocker panels from damage. The side-steps also will get hung up if you're trying to angle around a sharp rocky outcropping... But it all comes down to what you're planning on doing in your 4Runner. If you aren't going to do anything more aggressive than a forest service road, you'll probably be fine. If you actively seek out more difficult trails and obstacles, you'll probably want to opt for more protection rather than less. It costs around $2K to replace one of your doors (ask me how I know!!!). Sliders are between 300 and 600. Small price to pay for some insurance.
But, in the end, it's your truck. Internet opinions are just that... so do what makes you happy!

Who's all in for a night run tomorrow to either Butcher Jones or 4 Peaks? trying to get a headcount - I'd like to keep the number of trucks low, so want to see who from here is coming before I ask others.
