I'm definitely looking forward to getting out more for sure, and I can CERTAINLY see how this is addicting HA!
I wonder about some things though.... how sturdy are these stock tires? I mean should I be worried about certain types of rocks ripping them open?
As far as trips yea there seems to be ton of stuff up by me in the northwest valley, so I'm all for coming to meet some of you guys and see what it's all about. The sunday thing I'm definitely out unfortunately... I work sundays :-/

So all that said.... Is it worth biting the bullet and doing this full ICON "Kit"?
I'm not buying yet, but trying to set my expectations up, and get my plan in place... And I just want to do this right! I want a nice ride on the streets and a solid setup on the dirt. Probably looking to do like a 2" lift most likely and don't want an awkward looking stance. Bout all I have figured out so far ha :help:

ICON is creme' of the crop for sure. There is a lot your street tires can handle, and by the sound of it I don't think you plan on doing anything too extreme so I say wear em out then replace.
Personally Im all about the rake as long as its no excessive, the front suspension is limited and down travel is as important as up.
If all you are looking for is about 2" why not consider the OME stuff? People say its harsh (firm)on road and rides like a truck but where I'm from a 4runner is a truck soooo....

They're plenty sturdy for most off-road adventures. I'm still running stockers on mine and I haven't yet run into anything that I couldn't do with ATRAC turned on. You just can't run them as low as you would a good E or D rated tire. I'll drop pressure down to around 22 or so when hitting the rough stuff and aside from a single divot in the sidewall, I've been unscathed.
Now, obviously, once those wear out, by all means get a better set of tires that's more inline with what you want to do with your vehicle. Just remember that as your tires get more aggressive, your gas mileage gets worse.

Well so here's my thing to answer or align with a few things mentioned.
I of course don't want TERRIBLE gas mileage lol, but I am fairly lucky in that I work literally 5 miles from my house at best so I really have it good in that regard. But it is my daily driver and I do take it to sedona and other places when family/friends come in town, and I'd like to keep the tires aggressive enough to be on point in the dirt but not so stupid that I'm rattling down the highway with knobby song playing the entire time ha
My biggest interests with this truck after reading quite a few threads since I've joined, is I really just want to do my upgrades smart, with products that will last and that are of quality workmanship. Doesn't mean I need the best thing that exists, but I do want to make sure I invest money wisely ya know.
I also want to make sure that whatever I DO do (I just said dodo) I can retain ride quality day to day and also keep the alignment within spec without rubbing. I definitely don't think I want a lift anymore then 2" and I want a nice flat stance, no rake. Does anyone think it would be silly to invest in the Full stage 2 ICON kit? Is it overkill
P.S. the nose dive in this truck on the stock suspension feels like a bucking bronco holy crap :laugh: Ohh and when I was on that devils bridge path to the trail head, I was CRAWLING SO SLOW lol. Was absurdly paranoid about hitting rocks to hard on the tires and stuff

I would get icon if I intended to really off-road my vehicle and I mean more than a service road. It IS NOT maintenance free suspension, so if you don't intend to do a ton of off-roading I wouldn't drop the coin on it. I would get Toytec(maintenance free bilsteins) or OME and spend the money I saved on armor like sliders and skid plates first. then I would think about bumpers.
you should really see coders 4Runner in action, he has a great maintenance free lift on his. it's not crazy extreme but very capable. might be all you want.

Awwww shucks... I'm all about maintenance free! And I'm really happy with where my 4Runner is at as far as the lift is concerned. It's definitely an upgrade from stock and you can feel that in how the vehicle rides. It's more "truck like" than before.
Now, don't get me wrong, the road manners of the stock suspension are outstanding, but with that cushy ride comes the node dive breaking and (without the KDSS system) less than stellar cornering. But, those were not issues for me originally and I kinda liked the "Lincoln town-car" like mushy ride.
With all that said, I agree with AZBub. Icons are top of the line equipment and are fully re-buildable. But I wouldn't get them unless you really plan on hammering the kind of trails that need that level of performance. Wheel it for a while stock to get a better idea of what you like to do in it and go from there.

Guys.... Thats actually GREAT feedback man! See everytime I ask more and more questions I get more and more of a feel for how I think I may go about future upgrades.

Thanks guys for posting the pics! It really doesn't look terrible even with the stock rims and tires. It'll look soooooo much better once I slap a set of KO2s on there and some sliders! But alas... I have a door to replace first. :ybrick:
I think I netted around 2.5 inches in the front and just shy of 3 inches in the back from the lift. This was a Toytec Ultimate lift that I bought third party, so I'm not 100% sure that it was still at the factory preset 3 inches in front.
And I put my running boards back on for my road trip to San Fran because the spousal unit was complaining that it was too hard to get into the truck without a step... Yes, they will be gone again before I hit the trails again...
